I mean if you get rid of the DEI teams

You can tell the right wingers repeating the current thing and thinking they are clever

FTR DEI is awful, giving auto bids to conference winners long predates it labeling a one off (2 G5 teams being in the playoff) DEI because you don’t like the result is just dumb.

I’d like a 16 team playoff with no automatic berths, just take the 16 best teams based on some combination of AP, Coaches and SOS. This would provide 8 home playoff games which would be huge for the college game. And get rid of the conference championships without the automatic berths. They likely will keep them because of money but they are becoming increasingly inconsequential.

It's usually a lot easier to discern who is #2-3 vs #12-13, where at least a half-dozen teams have a claim. .

#3 has a legitimate beef in a lot of years. Especially Auburn in 2004.

If it's debatable whether you're #12 or #13, you definitely aren't the best.

The result should be the same. Except the top 4 teams will have done more to earn their way there under the current playoff format.
