It was only a matter of time. FG has to do something about purses. Oaklawn is killing it with their purses.

Kentucky Downs? Y’all just chasing money now.

I hate wasting races with a horse it’s a pet peeve I’ve mine. Run her again at Ellis or Monmouth they have good purses at both tracks. Everyone and there moma going to be at KY Downs

We want to win money for sure, but that is not the main focus at this point. Getting her use to that stiff competition is our main focus.

That baw won the Kentucky Derby in 2022 with Rich Strike at 80/1. Y'all are in great hands. BB showed great promise in her first start. She broke sharp and ran evenly throughout. Great experience versus a tough group. Man, that was exciting! I got out of the business in 2022 when I retired. I owned a dozen or so throughout the years. I'm nervous to get back in the game now that I'm on a fixed income. But, now it's in my blood. I really miss the butterflies in my stomach on race day. And the adrenaline rush when you win. Congratulations brother and enjoy the ride.

Turfway is just as good. Churchill is not going to put any more money into the purse structure, since they didn't get what they wanted earlier this year from Louisiana. FG is a sinking ship. Like i said a million times, its Delta with a turf course. Garbage meet

New Mexico Tiger,

What part of NM are you in? I work out on the Texas/New Mexico line and we venture into Carlsbad/Hobbs often.

Taking out the HHR machines hurt no doubt from what I hear purses should be the same as last year or close to it. Might take a couple more years to get them up and respectable .

I was between ABQ and Santa Fe for 25 years. Moved back to Louisiana in '22 to be closer to family. I was out there long enough to win a race at all 5 tracks on the NM circuit. My best horse was Kris Who. He retired in '22 (same as me) with lifetime earnings over $286K. My trainer was Sherry Armstrong. She's consistently in the top 10 on the NM circuit. She told me more than once to "stay in my lane" lol. The good trainers know what they're doing. Let them cook.

The HHR machines were never going to be there regardless. Louisiana wasn't giving up the take. From what I heard, the purses will be reduced if anything. It will get worse before better

The HHR machines were already in place at the OTBs and at FG.

They are cutting some stakes races this meet is what I heard to help with the purses

Your trainer should be trying to get ur horses out of Maiden ranks ASAP

Horses are a huge health risk every time they step on the track, wasting starts is problematic. Hell, since he's going to run in Kentucky, you might as well run them at Fairmount Park to break Maidens, then spot your horses at ellis, keenland, etc. And wait for FG to run with friends or similar.

And Ellis is not where the top 2 year olds or even the 2nd string are running for KY breds. Some ran at CD, and rest are waiting for Keenland, and then CD to get that Maiden win before 3 year old season.

Then you have top turf 2 year old waiting for ky downs and keenland

Super jealous. Even more jealous that you get to see Sovereignty race in person. He's the best three year old colt I've seen since Justify. Saratoga is beautiful this time of year and is on my bucket list.

Beg to differ. Trainers love running 2 year olds at Ellis because of the surface. Go ask any of them, and they will (majority) say yes.

The top 2 year olds will be running at keenland and Churchill. Every year

Maiden special win at any track counts the same as a win vs 150K horses. You move on to spotting and beating on nw1, nw2, nw 1 at distance, etc.

In Saratoga, eat at Wishing Well or Brook Tavern. Went to high school with the owner. Great restaurants.

Been hearing many outfits are staying in KY for the winter, and aren't going to FG. Purses are too good to pass up.

Doubt its that many. Turfway is the only Kentucky track running in the winter and it has no turf course.

$70k maiden reasons to stay with no written cheap LA bred rats. Thats why. Like I said before, Churchill isn't boosting purses that much , if at all at the FG. By far, the worst winter meet in the country. Put it this way. If i trained horses, and my house was in Louisville, why would I spend money on an apartment for $2k a month, with crappy open company purse money? When i can sleep in my own bed every night. Not to mention, someone has to pay for the grooms , and barn help, right? Trust me, owners are getting tired of the purses at FG. When it comes down to it, THEY are the ones paying the bills. I know a couple of owners that are 90% sure they aren't going back. Boils down to money, and expenditures. Trainers actually like the Tapeta .
