You mean besides the guaranteed money the team gave him so that they could maintain the right to cutting him if they chose?

If he tanks his trade value too much, and asking for a new contract with guaranteed money when you have three years left on your current deal is coming close to that line, then the Steelers won't trade him at all. They are going to eat the cap hit anyway. If they can't get a return on trading him they will just let him sit out of games. Since he is on a contract, unlike Leveon last year, he will be fined for every game he misses.

He’s not asking for a new contract. He’s just not redoing his current deal unless it adds more guarantees.

Promise you plenty of people will take on a top 5 WR in his prime.

Of course someone will take him on but he is not in his prime anymore.

He’s coming off his 6th straight season with over 100 catches, 1200 yards and 8 TDs including last season grabbing a career high in TD catches

He’s most certainly in his prime

All he’s saying is that he isn’t going to restructure his contract to get rid of guarantees. If someone trades for him it’ll either be on his current contract or a new contract with more guaranteed money

First of all, no one actually knows what the frick he’s saying. Did you not read the article? It’s jibberish.

And he just signed a contract in 2017. Why the hell shouldn’t he have to honor that? I’m all for players earning what they are worth but he is complaining a few years after signing a huge contract? Give me a fricking break. This is getting out of hand

Who said he’s not honoring it? He’s just not taking a pay cut. Prettt simple concept

I don't even think he is trying to cast any illusions about being in a tough spot.

The teams will cut these players in a second if it serves their interests. The players might as well exercise their leverage while they still have it.

Maybe I missed it, I haven’t really been following this.

Who is asking him to take a pay cut? Why wouldn’t he just keep playing on his current contract that has 3 years left?

A lot of times teams will ask players in this situation to redo their contract to facilitate a trade. Usually turns into a player getting a “higher” contract number, but in reality they are simply back loading/front loading the deal so that the player is easier to cut down the line. For years players have been dumb enough to take it and focus more about the over contract number that the media floats around instead of the actual real guaranteed money. Brown is saying he isn’t playing that game.

But the reason this is happening is because he asked for a trade right?

No, but he still comes off as a huge diva by his other actions.

I am not a fan of him.

Yes, but that doesn’t mean he has to take a pay cut or redo his contract. He signed that contract and he wants to keep it that way unless someone wants to offer more.

And at the end of the day it was some shite he said on frickin Instagram live. Not exactly a huge deal

I’d argue sitting out the last game of the season is a breach of contract.

As far as I know, no one asked him to restructure his current contract. He just decided he was unhappy with it.

Guy is a head case and is screwing himself with all the social media. That said, he has enough talent where San Fran or someone else will take a flyer on him.

That was the teams decision
