With UConn leaving the conference, this leaves 11 teams and an open spot. I would assume that Navy moves from the East to the West. That never made any sense to have Navy in the West. What does the AAC do now? Do they add a school from the west or move another team from the east to west, add another school from the east and realign their divisions? In my opinion they should move Navy to the east and try and add BYU to the West.

EAST:

UCF
USF
Cincinnati
Temple
East Carolina
Navy

WEST:

Houston
Memphis
Tulsa
Tulane
SMU
BYU

BYU is not joining them. It’ll be Army or a team like UAB or ODU

What about Rice or LA Tech?

I think Army is content with where they’re at winning 10 games a year. I think Navy might force a move to the West or consider leaving the AAC.

Why would they add la tech? they already have a school in Louisiana and Houston. UAB and ODU have big budgets for cusa, have brand new facilities for football, and good basketball tradition. And of course new and bigger tv markets

Birmingham would be crazy not to do a full court press if a spot comes up. The new stadium is going to be nice, but you have to give fans a reason to come out. Teams like UCF and Houston coming to town would be a big draw.

I think it’s going to be Army and Cincinnati will swap divisions with Navy.

I just don’t think Army is willing to sacrifice their recent on the field success. They have a model that works for them and they see what is happening to Navy. I don’t think Army will have any interest in becoming a doormat again. Stick with what is working for them.

Yeah Army left conference USA when it had all these teams in it already. I don’t think Army is a shoe in for the spot.

Wichita adds football and becomes a full member, done. F UConn.

As an aside, Navy is in the West as a request. Before joining the American, their scheduling MO was full of games at Sun Belt (region) programs in C-USA and the Sun Belt for recruiting exposure.

They wanted to be in a division with Tulane, Houston, Memphis, and SMU, and not in one with UConn, Temple, and Cincinnati. FYI.

Navy was pretty good in the American at first. I think their drop off has to do a lot with Army taking a lot of their players. Service academies recruit the same kids.

Army just blew the doors off Houston in the bowl game too.

Or maybe the fact that over time, Navy just simply cant compete in a confernce like the AAC and it’s finally taking its toll. In complete honesty, I firmly believe Navy should get out of the AAC all together. See my thread about a new FBS football only conference. Hell even Air Force should consider getting out of the MWC.

That was before these massive TV contracts.

I’m hoping it’s UAB because I would go to some games if they were playing in the American, but I think the American isn’t going to pass up adding the prestige of Army to the conference now that they’ve shown some football promise.

don't think anything outside of a P5 can be considered "massive"

Compared to what the CUSA was getting in 2004, the American’s deal is massive

They should chase BYU, Colorado State, Army, Southern Miss, Marshall, App State, UAB in that order.
