He would have made it if not for a perfect throw.

His brain still says he can do it. His body is letting him down. Old age sucks!

Another 2 HR game tonight? He’ll get #700 before October.

I remember Bill Simmons used to always kinda downplay Albert’s greatness by saying he was really older than what we were told. That’s why he started great from rookie season.

When you end your career 10th in hits, 5th in doubles, 4th in home runs, 2nd in rbi, and 2nd in total bases, does it matter what your real age is?

I don’t remember where I saw someone say this, but someone pointed out 699 would be cooler in the long run.

700 is the nice round number, but 699 has you in the same spot historically, and it makes you the gatekeeper for anyone trying to reach 700. You have to pass Pujols. I want to see 700, but it’s an interesting thought.

If the throw was literally anywhere else by an inch, he makes it. Ball hit glove as glove caught back knee a split second before he got the bag.

First things first, he shouldn’t desert his team by going down to PR to watch his team win a basketball championship in a heated pennant race.

I’m in that camp as well. And re: Bill Simmons, he’s a Masshole snob who gargles Ortiz’s jewels.

My only time seeing Pujols play was also my only trip to the old Busch Stadium in its last year, 2005. Pujols got thrown out after his first at-bat for arguing with the ump. Wanted to see him bomb one that day.

I've seen him hit 3 homeruns in person, all in Atlanta.

Busch3 will crumble into dust if he reaches 700 at home.

Records for records' sake?

Despise the practice. It's a form of cheating.

Meh.. the number 699 is the gate keeper to 700.
700 is a milestone itself, so it would be cooler if Pujols got like 702. Whoever gets past 700 next, has another milestone to pass right after.

It's going to be awhile before anyone even gets to 600 HR.

Not that heated tbh. Think Milwaukee won’t even be the same after this weekend and dropping several to the Cubs in heart breaking fashion. They aren’t the same team after the trade deadline though
