LINK

I saw this “job” on LinkedIn as it came up on my recommended jobs. I linked the same ad on another site. They want a beat writer to write about sports technology.

The job requirements seem pretty standard for an entry level writing job. They want 5 articles a week with quick turnaround. But these cocksuckers have the nerve to advertise the job as “unpaid.”

I got taken advantage by a similar scam in college but I figured it out and quit after about two weeks. For this scum company to have the nerve to advertise on LinkedIn for this shite makes me irrationally angry.

This is an unpaid internship but we will be happy to work with any students who may be looking to gain internship credit.

It’s pretty clear this is what they’re aiming for. They want an unpaid intern and in return that intern gets their college credit and relevant experience and industry connections. That’s not a bad deal, since an unpaid internship will weed out anyone that needs the money and leave the job exclusively for students

It says right at the top of the page that it’s unpaid. Maybe a crap deal, but it’s not a “scam” when they’re upfront with you.

10-12 years ago I saw an ad looking for someone to write about fantasy football. It advertised that it paid like $10 an article and expected at least 3 articles a week.

I was talking with a guy I know who wrote for a local newspaper/site at the time and he told me that its always a risk when doing freelance jobs especially if you are not established and its not uncommon for them not to pay you.

My first article was published and they asked me for my information so they could pay me. I asked about the payment and I didn't get a reply. In the mean time I submitted two more article which they published then they asked me if I would write an article summarizing the upcoming week in CFB. I told them I would prefer to be paid before I do anything else. They never replied back.

You can use it to get your name out there if that's what you want to do, but there are a lot of people willing to write for free that they don't have to pay anyone.

No one should be paid money for writing about sports when so many people are willing to do it for free.

And it seems the few that do get paid are some of the biggest idiots on the planet.

Sportswriting has become social commentary. Nobody should get paid for their jackass opinion.

go to bleacher report - their articles are written by kids who live in their parent's basement

Which makes Chicken a god damned genius when you stop for half a second and think about it.

Gets all the traffic of a fairly large sized media webpage and pays exactly zero dollars for content creation.

It might be worth it if I would get media credentials to LSU and Saints games.

Get a microphone and a YouTube page. If you're interesting and are capable of making good graphic designs you'll make money in no time.

Unpaid internships are lame, but not sure I would call this company “scum”. More like short-sighted

It's not a bad deal if you're working for a publication/site that is a known commodity. I've never heard of Sports Techie, and it's not a well-known publication/site. They're up front about it not being paid, but it's not a resume booster.
