ACC Network may end up airing PAC-12 games

ESPN doesn't want the PAC to fall apart because they would end up having little to no football content out West. With this move, they can throw the PAC a lifeline that brings in more money for them as well as their disgruntled ACC partners.

Depends on what their end goal is. And what the contract says - i.e. could the ACC schools looking to leave vote against a quasi-merger with the Pac12 to keep the ACC weak

I'm guessing the majority of ACC schools are not looking to leave because they understand their worth (or lack thereof) so they'll gladly take more money.
ESPN's goal is to keep control of as many assets as possible. If the ACC falls apart, they lose assets to the B1G.

Which it obviously is (if it happens) since ESPN is behind it. Neither conference would have interest in it if it didn't lead to more money for them.

That’s the big key though. Why stick around when you know your two biggest remaining assets have a foot out of the door?
Lack of trust causes panic movement.
Only way they can prevent it from happening is if ESPN can guarantee “x” revenue dollars even if multiple teams leave for the Big Ten. Otherwise, that dollar amount seems pretty worthless in the grand scheme.
Nobody wants to be the one without a chair when the music stops. Weirdly enough, the Big 12 seems to be the most stable option.

ESPN has the SEC and the ACC. They don't need to save the Pac-12. If they want a 10pm Saturday game they have the MWC. ESPN with SEC and ACC at 11, 2:30, and 7:00 doesn't need the PAC. There are people who will watch San Diego State versus Air Force at 10pm.

Reports have made it clear that, outside of Notre Dame, the other available schools (ones not in the locked down ACC) are just not attractive from a cash-in vs. cash-out perspective for the SEC and B1G to make any more moves anytime soon.
The schools that are attractive to the Big 12 will still be attractive to them tomorrow and 10 years from now. If ESPN and the ACC can stabilize the PAC, the schools in it that have any value elsewhere will retain that value.

Yeah but probably less than will watch Oregon/Stanford. The Mountain West's primary broadcast partner is distant 3rd place network for a reason.
