Now that UConn has played its final game in the AAC, what does the future hold for both the AAC and UConn football? There has been articles from back in June stating that the AAC wont rush to find a replacement, but i think at 11 teams, they would probably like to find a 12th member to keep the divisions balanced? Who would be a good replacement for UConn in the AAC? Also, what is the future of UConn football? Do they go Independent, find a new league or drop down to FCS?

AAC East:

Cincinnati
UCF
USF
Temple
East Carolina
**Insert Team**

AAC West:

Memphis
Houston
Navy
SMU
Tulane
Tulsa

Next year they’re independent for football and have already released their schedule
Probably better than an AAC schedule

LINK

I think after a few years they go FCS or just get rid of it in total

Marshall, Old Dominion, Southern Miss, App State would be decent.

If UMass had a better program that wouldnt be a bad choice

It probably won’t be Southern Miss thanks to a combination of a lack of market and a lot of current AAC members not wanting anymore CUSA teams.

Of that list, my guess is Old Dominion for the purposes of the VA market despite them having no following.

I think BYU would be a good addition. Move Navy to the East and put BYU in the West. BYU being independent has to hurt their scheduling.

AAC East:

Cincinnati
UCF
USF
Temple
East Carolina
Navy

AAC West:

Memphis
Houston
Tulane
Tulsa
SMU
*BYU*

WKU would be a solid add. Football has been going to bowl games and basketball has history. Fan support is very good there.

Why not Army?
Navy already in it, add the other service academy

I figure army gets resisted for the same reason as Southern Miss... they were CUSA in the late 90s - early 2000s when about 75% of the current league was there.

They won’t want to make the AAC into CUSA with a new name (and minus Louisville).

They’d have to play before the championship. I’m sure they’d prefer their own weekend after the championships.

I’m gonna be completely stupid here because i know NOTHING about either school or their rivalry.
Have they always been this way? They weren’t at one point in the same conference?
And had it always been the last week like this after the conference championships?

You’d think BYU would be interested. As bad as the AAC bowl tie ins are it’s an upgrade for BYU and they will always be behind the AAC champ and Boise for the ny6. But they seem intent on staying independent and having their own tv deal.

I think app state as a football only member makes the most sense, even though they don’t fit the conference profile. I hadn’t thought about western Kentucky, like them more than the uab, Georgia southern types.

UAB is reportedly making a push with the "full support" of the BOT, whatever that means. They're definitely the most attractive Conference USA team thanks to their resurgence and slick new stadium in 2021, but I think the AAC would be correct in not rushing to fill this slot. They've lived up to their 'Power 6' slogan and you don't want to water down the league with too many small time schools. If you can somehow get BYU I think you make the move, but if not just sit for a bit.

Would be huge. The state has enough 3* players that they would upgrade talent over night. Would hopefully hang on to Clark too.

BYU is apparently more interested in having their own network and playing all their sports on days other than Sunday, which their current non-football league (Big West?) is happy to accommodate.

I know their is some bad legal history, but Boise State would be a slam dunk as a football only member. I know they enjoy being the Texas of the mountain west and running the show, but it has more respect in the eyes of football fans and media than any team in the AAC currently. It has to be frustrating to go 12-1 and still be left out of the NY6 in favor of the AAC.
