Analytics kills every sport it touches.

I'm not a big analytics guy, but i get it. and in the long run it's smart......for the regular season.

The problem i have with analytics is blindly following it in the postseason.

Game 121 of baseball, bottom of the 9th, down 1, leadoff man gets on, analytics says bunting is stupid. Fine. let the next 3 guys strike out or hit a homer. Game 5 of a playoff game same situation, maybe play it situationally. Having a feel for the game and knowing that the 9 hole hitter is up to bat and doesn't have a good history with this pitcher then common sense says bunt the runner to 2nd and let your 1 and 2 hole hitters try to hit him in. Analytics say just let everyone try to hit a double/homer. Common sense says let the guy bunt the runner into scoring position so the better batters can hit him in.

Same here with the Celtics tonight. You're shooting 25% from 3. You're sucking. Maybe try to get to the goal more, or I don't know, maybe hunt some mismatches down low, or i don't know, maybe not settle for step back 3's when you have KAT guarding Tatum. You see it all the time in the playoffs. They play the pick and switch game to get mismatches, and then settle for step back 3's. Break your man down and get to the goal and collapse the defense and kick out for wide open catch and shoot 3's. If you shoot 25% on catch and shoot 3's, then so be it.

The players today would hide in a corner and cry if they had to play the Detroit Pistons D of the mid to late 80's

So if the Celts just had a Rip Hamilton type hit a couple of mid-range jumpers they win the game. I guess the counterargument is they missed all those threes and still only lost in OT.

60 threes in a game is just stupid when the jumper isnt falling. I hate that style of basketball too. They deserved to lose.

False. The games are on youtube, go watch the tape. These playoffs have been as physical if not more, than any era. Allowing fights to break out is not what constitutes physical play. It's how fouls are called.

I hope basketball gets to a point where teams are shooting a combined 180 3s. Just jacking it up from half court non stop. Game is solved and broken. Not worth a crap

I'm talking about physicality, you're talking about 3s.

I hate the 3s too, when a game turns into a 3pt contest it's so boring. It was only 12 years ago where the Heat with their 2 stars averaging a combined three 3s a game.

Shooters have gotten so good that it's a good shot. I'm hoping some team zags and continuously attacks the basket tho and proves that points in the paint > endless 3s. That is what will shift the dynamic.

Maybe officiating is dictating the strategy.

In Larry Bird's 60 point game against the Hawks he attempted four 3- pointers. And he was the big, 3- point guy.

In Michael Jordan's 63 point game, he attempted ZERO 3- pointers.

All this to say you don't get analytics.

Last game the Knicks were 17-37, Boston was 15-60. A combined 32-97.

In 1992 Blazers/Bulls finals, 6 games, they shot a total of 112.

My how the game has changed
