83 TD's in 65 games and no one talks about Priest Holmes.

It's always talk about, Terrell Davis, Adrian Peterson, LT, Arian Foster, etc....

Have people forgotten about how effective Priest Holmes was?
He's rarely mentioned in the great NFL rbs debates.

He was really good. He also ran behind arguably the best offensive line of the decade.

Willie Roaf
Brian Waters
Casey Wiegmann
Will Shields
Jon Tait

Roaf and Shields are legitimate HOFers.

Longevity is key in being remembered. also, he got to run behind some killer offensive lines

I always evaluate an offensive line before I give a RB his due. Priest was a good RB, but like others said, he was given huge holes to run through.

It probably doesn't help Priest that his replacement came in and dominated for a couple years too.

Its b/c he played the bulk of his career in Kansas City. If he was on a team like the Jets he would get way more love.

I mean his greatness window was 3 seasons in KC and as others have pointed out it was behind a heck of a line. He isn't mentioned with reason, it was a fleeting career. Injuries certainly didn't help there either.

Another factor going against him is lack of playoff success. That and the fact his TD record only lasted 2-3 years and was surpassed twice.

I mentioned him the other day on this board complaining about how the running game sucks in the NFL

Not only did he have a great line but Tony Richardson was a hell of a fullback.

Those 3 seasons were great. He scored 20+ TDs in back to back seasons. He had a good line, but he also had a mediocre qb and was pretty much the focal point. Teams knew he was getting the ball and it didn't fricking matter

He rushed for almost 1700 yards and missed 2 full games. Injuries cut his career short. That and he didn't start until he was like 27.

Larry Johnson had a couple of 1700 yard seasons behind that line too after Holmes left.

but Holmes scored 21 more TD's as a Chief than LJ did.

Holmes beat him in yardage but not as by much as I thought.

Larry Johnson was fricking awesome though. Injuries killed him too that and the fact every coach he ever had hated his guts.

What dick vermeil did with those teams and the Rams is remarkable. He was an awesome coach

Him rushing the ball 417 times one season didn't help. He was the definition of a bell cow RB.

Watching the highlights now too. Damn he has patience and vision but it always looked like it was in fast forward

That line was awesome but priest was still a bad mother fricker

And he caught the ball a lot too. God damn, that's the NFL I miss.

ETA: just check the highlights and it's still as you remember. That line was great but so was priest. He had it all. Vision both at the LOS and the second level, quick burst, move laterally on a dime. He was fast, he could break tackles, he could fly over people

He and Marshall Faulk had that thing. Like they dissect what they see so quickly while
Moving full speed.

I proudly admit it

One of my all time favorite players. He's like 20th (ETA: he's 15th) in all time TDs. I would bet everyone directly in front of him is in the HOF. (ETA: all of them are in the HOF or they're virtual locks)
