It was corruption there as well.

That's a stretch. Colorado was 3-1-1 and ranked 12th behind two other Big 8 teams, Oklahoma and Nebraska. Those 3 wins were also nailbiters. It wasn't until chaos happened later that year that Colorado was inserted into the MNC discussion and the 5th down controversy reappeared.
