I'm in favor of regionals personally like the CWS. It should be atleast double elimination in baseball. Anyone can beat anyone in 1 game in baseball. The better team would win more often than not if they went to the same format as the NCAA.

you are correct in that ST had a weak non-district schedule.

I also like the idea of a best 2 out of 3 playoff system, although it will never happen.

Proposals put forth by the baseball coaches come up every year but they get shot down every year at the principals' meetings.

You have 32 teams. Why not 8 regionals the first weekend followed by 2 out of 3 series on Friday/Saturday the 2nd weekend, then a double elimination bracket on the 3rd weekend? Hell, you could cut it down to 2 weekends with 8 regionals then those 8 winners playing in a double elimination bracket. Round of 8 on Thursday, 4 on Friday, WB finals on Saturday, Championship and If neccessary game on Sunday. You would only need 2 fields to do this easily.

Any idea how many strikeouts he had, hits allowed? If not, no big. Of course the Picayune made no mention of numbers.

Interestingly, Thibodaux now is hosting Sulphur today in Thibodaux. Apparently, when LHSAA heard what happened with the umpires they gave Thibodaux the option of hosting. Huge advantage.

The Daily Comet in Thibodaux reported that the team stayed overnight in Sulphur, though.

Not that much of an advantage. Houma Courier website just reported Sulphur whooped Thibodaux's arse 12-1 So much for an advantage.

Maybe not, but I remember it always being the same teams for the most part every year. Barbe, Rummel, Jesuit, WM, Brother Martin, St. Amant, Airline, then 1 random team seemed to be the make up of the tourney my 4 years in school.

its the same teams every year because they hve the best programs, not because they play McDonough35 in the first round.

Catholic league yearly is the toughest league, and if they finish 1st in that district i dont see any problem playing Mc35 or Central Lafrouche in the 1st round.

my 5 years at Rummel they played some tough 2nd round games against teams like Destrehan, Hahnville, and Mandeville.

It really has nothing to do with the "draw". It's just these teams are better.

whoa whoa, what are you trying to say about Central Lafourche bro? That program has put more players in MLB than your alma mater.

Here comes the boom!!!

2006

2nd place Jesuit played HL Bourgeious and winner of Grace King/East St. John
1st place Rummel played Terrebone and winner of Bonnable and John Ehret

2005

2nd place Rummel played East St. John, then a wildcard/East Jeff winner
1st place Jesuit had to beat Fortier, then Grace King/McMain winner

2004

3rd place Rummel played Fortier, then East Jeff/Kennedy
2nd place Holy Cross played East St. John
1st place Jesuit played Higgins, then a 2nd place Northshore (meanwhile Ryan Byrd and DS played at Barbe. Hahnville played 1st rd pick Reid Brignac and St. Amant. 1st rd pick Beau Jones and Destrehan played 9th rd pick Matt Walker and Central)

Sorry to ruin your Catholic League memories with facts that they always had easier draws to get to the State Tournament.

thats one year. 1st place teams have similar roads to the state tournament.

and there's a reason the same teams are there every year; because they are the best teams in the state year in and year out.

Well I just showed you about the last four years of the "old format". Nobody has said that the Catholic Leagues schools weren't great baseball teams, but in baseball, in a one game series, anything can happen. But when Jesuit and Rummel kept drawing inner-city New Orleans schools and 3rd place and wild-card teams from other districts in the 2nd round, that wasn't fair.

In the last two years, with the seeding format:

Jesuit made the State Tourny last year, and they were one of the best teams, but two other Catholic League schools got beat in the second round. This year, the district champ Brother Martin has already been beaten. The top 5 seeded teams got to play Higgins and John Ehret, not the Catholic League.

well, the game was at nish and the umpires were quite terrible to be nice. mandeville went up 6-1 early then had a meltdown in the 4th inning i believe and nish tied it up 6-6. next inning both teams were held scoreless, then mandeville held scoreless top 7. nish comes up to get 1st and 2nd with 1 out if i'm not mistaken then a grounder is hit to SS he throws to third gets the guy by a second or two, he is called safe. all hell breaks loose on that call, which was a continuation of the previous bad calls. the kid that was on 3rd scores 7-6. the inning is then over. top 7 mandeville goes 2 up 2 down, then james winget comes up to bat. winget gets down 1-2, next pitch was a fastball and he bombs it over the left field fence. no doubter, i'm not really sure if the left fielder did anything but turn around to see how far it went. while he was rounding the bases the umpire somehow got into a confrontation with the mandeville SS who he fricked over with the bad call earlier. the kid gets tossed, about a 10 minute delay while mandeville is pleading their case. the SS and a coach get tossed in the end. the next batter gets out 7-7 bottom 7. nish goes scoreless in the bottom 7th. a lot of nothing happens until the top of the 10th. mandeville gets the first two guys on, the next two get out, then a kid comes up and rips one down the 3rd base line, kid on 2nd scores. the one who was previously on first got greedy and tried to advance to 3rd but was thrown out. 8-7 bottom 10. nish goes three up three down. game over.

you better fricking read all this.

congrats to james winget 2 hr's and lee bachelder (sp?) for pitching a hell of a final 5 innings.
mandeville plays st paul at home on monday. should be like a 6:30 or 7 start time.
