Anyone else have a bad feeling about San Diego this weekend? I hope I’m wrong, but I think it’ll be a long, boring race with half of it being run under cautions. Hear me out. The track is over 3 miles long so if NASCAR throws a caution, it’ll take them forever to pit and get lined up again. The first stage is 20 laps so throwing 2 cautions will equate to half of the stage being run caution speed. This race and road courses in general do not need stages. I know I’m a pessimist for this take, but I’m thinking about what could happen.

(Why can’t they do at all tracks)

NASCAR will try to speed up caution periods at San Diego in an attempt to minimize the number of caution laps. This is due to the size of the course, which is the longest on the schedule.

Believe me, I’m tired of stages too.

How do you speed up caution periods? Why can’t they do that at all tracks.

I’m biased because my guys a cheat code on road courses, but I’ve been looking forward to this since they announced it. I’m sure there will be moments that make you groan but I think it’ll be an awesome event.

Stage cautions need to be fired into the sun though. Just award top ten points at halfway and be done with it.

Do stages because ads won’t go away. But don’t count laps

I’d just rather the action not stop. If we lose green flag laps so be it.

That leaves the #33. I believe that Austin Hill will not get that ride. Dale jr was hinting that Gragson would be a good fit in the #33 because bass pro likes him a lot. Bass pro wanted him in the JGR #19 years ago, but Joe Gibbs wanted Briscoe instead.

If Noah goes to the #33, that leaves the #4 open. Who knows who could land there.

Some TNT-NASCAR info: Jimmie Johnson will join as studio analyst for TNT races at Sonoma, NWB, Indy while Jeff Burton will be studio analyst for Chicagoland and Atlanta. Marty Smith will host the prerace and postrace coverage. Shannon Spake moves form host to pit road.

Layne Riggs. That dude is the best option to put in a cup car. I expect front row to lose Zane Smith in the next year or two. Would be a bad move to lose your next franchise guy in Riggs too.

Off-topic but would y’all support a nascar race at the lakefront airport in late March or early April? I think that could work for New Orleans.

I’ve been impressed with Zane Smith. He’s been running well with FRM.
