Starting this weekend in all NASCAR national series, if caution comes out with 10 or fewer laps left in stage, that will be end of the stage. If it is first stage, second stage would still end at the specified lap (so would be longer as far as laps than originally scheduled).

Why did it take this long? Because Nascar is just one big commercial. And they had to contact every company who advertises and clear it with them is my guess.
But it’s about damn time. This still doesn’t fix how awful long the cautions are though.

Agree. What can you see sitting in a pace car buckled in looking forward? Can he turn his neck that far and look out the rear window? And then what. You see 2 cars scrubbing tires. Whoopti doo lol

This is a great step. Props to NASCAR. I would prefer no stage breaks at all, but this is a start.

Now I’m 100% in favor of this new rule, but could teams take advantage of this in any way? Say another JGR car midpack causes a caution to help a JGR car get 10 stage points when a Penske car is about to pass him for the lead. I know it’s a stretch, but who knows what these teams could try in the chase?

Its going to completely change strategies too.
1. Racing for the stage points now knowing race could end at any time
2. Pitting with 3 laps to go strategy. Will teams pit with 11 to go just in case? Not pit? Gamble and still do with 3 to go?
3. Might make stage 2 longer which could mix up gas mileage races depending on track

True, if there’s a way it could be manipulated, it will.
Daytona will really be a wildcard not knowing when the stage will end. Fuel strategy got tossed out the window.

Oh yeah, put ALL your money on Denny Hamlin winning the championship.
They just gave Toyota another way to rig the races, and with stage points being the determining factor in this championship, you better believe Toyota will have some cars intentionally spinning when the 11 is in position to get points.

One problem with the new stage rule imo.
It should not have been a set amount of laps. Ot should be based on track type/size and a percentage.

This is where I land. I am happy to see that the "new" leadership will try things midseason instead of talking about it for 6 months to roll out two seasons from now.
