F1 also wanted manufacturers, not another haas. Hard to say no when GM got involved.
I think this was a big part of it. The FIA has to give new engine manufacturers a couple years to get settled in but then they can compel them to take on a customer team. So in a few years we could see every manufacturer providing engines for themselves and one customer. I think diversifying the engines like that would be a good thing instead of having Mercedes providing engines for half the grid.

The last few seasons, I watched all of the races on the F1TV app because I like the extra features compared to ESPN broadcasts. The F1 plan was $129 annually. This year, I subscribed to the Apple TV annual plan for $99 which includes the full F1TV Premium package. In the end, I spent $30 less in 2026 and got the same F1TV service as last year plus all AppleTV content essentially for free. Financially, I benefitted but I think F1 just destroyed its US audience. It makes no sense to me at all but only time will tell if F1 just choked out all of its US audience gains or not.

Yeah I think it was short sighted…extra money for the tv deal but they will lose viewers. I have the Apple family bundle, so f1tv is a bonus for me.

Sorry for the all caps.
To me this sounds like a lot of pitwall communication and a lot of learning research week to week for the engineering.
Those who didn't get the real world experience, like Williams, have to be way behind the ball. The sacrifice for high speed deployment vs quicker out the corner will be fun on tracks that are wide enough to pass. Maybe multiple lines through a corner.

YOU'RE GOING TO SEE MORE CHAOS IN RACES... THERE'S MORE EMPHASIS ON DRIVERS' ABILITY TO CONTROL ALL OF THESE THINGS [ENERGY MANAGEMENT].
YOU'LL SEE MORE YO-YOING, MORE MOVES
WITH EXTRA SPEED. BUT THEN THAT PERSON MIGHT HAVE TO DEFEND MORE THAN WHAT YOU'VE SEEN IN THE PAST AND THAT WILL CREATE MORE CHAOS.

Lando also said some corners that they used to take at full speed they won’t really be able to anymore because they will have to use the brakes to recharge their battery in those turns to be ready to deploy it elsewhere.

I guess I’m glad they’re closing the loophole, but this seems incredibly late to change the testing.

Not sure how they implement this in 2026. FIA already said they knew and approved of the methods. Hard for them to rewrite the rule and testing after that. More like DAS than flexi-wings
Wouldn't be surprised to see 2027 change. The first half engines are likely already manufactured so half the grid will be in violation for a while.

I love how early the drama is starting. Gonna be lawsuits filed by someone before long. If the new formula is good and results in tight races and multiple winners we could have an awesome season on our hands.
Love how Redbull leaked the news and then pretended to be neutral about it until the last minute.
Rumors that Mercedes might be willing to use a racing fuel with lower calorific value to appease the other teams.

This is the type of shite that started happening with CART in the early 2000s that ended up pissing off OEMs and ultimately leading to it being hollowed out
At least this new rule favors Honda , who is usually the first to take their ball and go home

Buckle up. Toto gonna be pissed
Not a Merc fan, but that is complete bullshite.
I can see changing a requirement on the aero or whatnot, as thats an easy fix. But to change something regarding the engine a month before the first race is fricking ridiculous.

Indycar is the only series in the country to be exclusively on network TV.
On Memorial Day Weekend the Indy 500 is the only race not behind a paywall.
Big opportunity for Indycar in addition to the World Cup Final Lead in for Nashville and the Washington DC Race

Seriously, they don’t mess around. Best and brightest engineers for both on and off the track. Porsche is the only reliable supercar brand. And can relatively blend in without looking like an a-hole. Timeless designs.
I have heard Porsche may be eying Indycar . Porsche doesn’t have the budget for a F1 assault given the current state of Volkswagen AG

How was Cadillac able to enter the fray and Andretti was frozen out? I can’t remember all the details.
Michael burned his bridge with F1 in 1993 after he rightfully trashed McLaren and accused them of sabotaging his season .
It also didn’t help Michael was going around the 2023 Miami GP harassing team Principals and asking them to sign a petition granting his inclusion into the sport

I think this will be a cool event. INDYCAR needs to do anything they can on their part to make it happen. I assume it’s planned to be a one time event. With Trump involved this will probably have the most bad arse gold trophy ever made.
Even though it was announced last week, planning in earnest for this has been going on for almost a year.
We should get the track layout next week.
A lot of libs are super salty about it but I think it will be an amazing event.
While the layout featuring the National Mall as the background will be a 1 year deal, Indycar is partnering with the Caps and Wizards ownership group . Assuming the race is successful (I can’t see how it won’t be) , I’d expect to see the event evolving into an annual fixture on the IndyCar schedule in the DC metro

Porsche should stay where they are. Keep pumping out great GTP cars and the best production super cars with the GT3RS.

The Indycar program would be based on their GTP engine.
The reason the new Indycar engine formula hasn’t been released is because they are considering allowing divergent engine formulas governed by BOP ala IMSA/WEC
