Awesome finish to the Xfinity race, Zilisch holds off SVG.

I truly do not understand how any of us could take this position. Every single one of us regulars in this thread rail on how shitty NASCAR has become in their seemingly intentional efforts to kill our beloved sport.
1000%
The France family built it into the sport we all love and then the later generation destroyed it. I can't say it is all 100% their fault, but I'm willing to go into the 90% range.
Charters are bullshite. It shouldn't cost that much damn money to race.

That steering wheel completely collapsed. Scary.
I wonder if he wouldn't have been better off doing the Danica thing and letting go completely and crossing your arms. Obviously ridiculous to say that's what he should have done in the time he has to make a decision. Just pondering. Glad he made it out ok.

The Xfinity racing has been better than Cup all year long except Atlanta Cup was better.
Shane could have won today but I think after last week he did not want to win via bumper today. Think he earned a lot of respect how he raced Conner. But you could tell Shane had the better car at end and was just toying with him. Shane made extra effort to avoid contact.
No cautions for cause today. Amazing how much younger and less talented drivers can race with no yellows. Bet money we see the pro’s with cautions on Sun.

Last 5 laps full of action. Couple spins, lost tire and no yellows. Saw a black flag vice checkered. 1991. Love the sound of engines too!!

I remember that one.
Rudd said after that they were "racin' like the Devil", and he got some wheel hop, and that's why they made contact.

You do know Chartered teams get way more payout per race right? Its like 3 times more so the payouts more than cover the cost after early season races.
And the other point is the Charters have value to protect your investment. If you leave Nascar your Charter is worth money to sell. Its done to protect the core teams who race and invest in the sport.
Same as NFL or NBA. Before Charters everyone got same money and if you got rid of a team you got nothing in return, even though you invested lots of money.
Nascar does just about everything wrong but the Charters are good for the sport.

Isn’t every sport the same way? Yes or no
Surely this isn't a serious question. In every major stick and ball sport, the owners and player associations have bargaining agreements with the league. It' a negotiation. NASCAR didn't do that. When the two teams tried to "negotiate" they were told to frick off this is the deal take it or leave it.

Not true. You are confusing them.
Nascar worked with teams for months prior to coming up with Charter system. They all agreed on it, that was technically the bargaining.
Now a team wants to change that agreement but its too late. They can sign on or race at will without a charter.
quote:
It works very similar to the Concorde Agreement in Formula 1, in which the sanctioning body has a certain degree of dialogue, in principle with the teams over competition related decisions.
A majority of the teams are also aligned under a union-like entity called the Race Team Alliance. The RTA has its own media entity, Racing America, and also has a negotiating committee that communicates with NASCAR on business related matters.
The maximum field size for a NASCAR Cup Series race is 40 cars, meaning that up to four teams without a charter can still take the green flag but they receive considerably less purse money than those who possess an ownership charter.
The creation of the system created a demand for charters — resulting in an economic ecosystem.
From the very beginning, NASCAR and the RTA set out to create a model that created long-term value for owning a team, while also creating competition to acquire a charter. The idea being, if there was value in possessing an ownership charter, there would be value upon needing to sell it.
Michael Waltrip Racing sold its two charters to Joe Gibbs Racing and Stewart Haas Racing in 2016 for $1 million each
Tommy Baldwin Racing sold its charter to Leavine Family Racing for $3.5 million in 2017
FurnitureRow sold its charter to Spire Motorsports for $6 million in 2018
Go Fas Racing sold its charter to Live Fast Racing for $10 million in 2021
Starcom Racing sold its charter to 23XI Racing for $13.5 million in 2021
Live Fast sold its charter to Spire Motorsports for $40 million in 2023
In previous eras, when a Cup Series team went out of business for whatever reason, it had nothing of value to sell beyond its race shops. The cars became quickly outdated and equipment was sold for pennies on the dollar.

Pit crew argument
NASCAR should have parked Gibbs for the rest of the race. You don't come into the pits and swerve at a tire carrier. That could have gone badly.

This might be his most impressive one yet. Absolutely no excuses for this one.
No new track
No lack of experience from the competition
Just straight belt to arse

Shane has these road courses down pat. Wish Chase E coulda got up there, damn cautions eliminated too many racing laps. Just like all road courses the last segment turns into bumper cars and not racing.
Can you imagine all the penalties if F1 stewards were in charge lol. Berry took out the 71 car on purpose as an example but there were plenty more. A driver works all day to get a good finish and someone just wipes you out.
TV coverage is just bad though.
Great that Chase B and Shane raced fairly clean, rare to see these days.

Not sure why the downvotes on this but it's spot on. Charters were created so that when you elect to sell or leave you have something of value to move on from. 2311 is screwed though if they lose that injunction this week. It seems NASCAR will assign or sell the 6 charters immediately.

If there wouldn't have been those cautions, then the 9 would have been on SVG. I don't get the road course hate, I think they are some of the best races of the year.
