Minnesota wins the correa deal. They only on the hook for 33 million, Houston owes him 71 million, and he's regressing poorly. Aging quickly.

Seriously, I was planning on redoing my kitchen with that money

They didn’t trade Ryan, which I really don’t understand why. If you’re going to blow it up, blow it completely up.

I’m just here to congratulate the Cards on once again making sure they won’t be very good or very bad for the foreseeable future

Did I read they traded 9 of 26 players in the last week?

Thats madness. They were only 6 games out of the wildcard and they completely blew up the roster. Tough day to be a fan up there.

The county bonds used for Target Field are payed off before the end of the year as well. Of course, ownership and the county want to extend that out for an additional 25 years. That’s a hell of a way to appease your fan base and you know, the people that keep the grass green and the lights on.

He’s not the player he once was, yet he is paid like it.

Let’s be real… letting Bregs walk was a huge mistake and they’re scrambling now to unfrick it.

But don’t dare criticize Houston front office haha. Make it make sense.

Yep, very disappointing for the Cubbies. I do like the addition of Castro, he's definitely and upgrade to the Brujan/Birdie hybrid, and he can play multiple positions and give more platoon flexibility.....but the Cubs need two starters IMHO and the one they got is averagish, I'd be surprised if Boyd and Horton are still pitching in late September and if they are I would be worried about their effectiveness given Body has not pitched over 100 innings in 6 years and Horton never.

And the relievers....could you get more mediocre ones than the two they got?

I have several family members who are huge Astro fans and they are like Tom Hanks on big - raising their hands and saying - I don't get it.

Good analogy. I was thinking Step Brothers, when Dale (actual sane Astros fans) interrupts Derek (Dana/Jeff/insane Astros fans) at the dinner table to ask a legit question about fishing (roster moves). We all know that Derek doesn't like to be interrupted.

Maybe someone is willing to do a stats/salary juxtaposition for Bregman and Correa. They're now on the hook for how much of Correa's salary? And Bregman wanted how much to stay in Houston?

It seems dumb on surface level.

$70MM

$200MM and more than 6 years. No one was giving him that. And no one did. While he was still a solid player, his numbers had declined every year since 2019. There was absolutely nothing to indicate he would have the sort of year he’s having. The Astros offered 6 years, 156MM. Paredes had been solid before he got hurt.

I did have one relative who said the Stros are playing some AAAA guys right now so Correa is an upgrade.

While that may be true, were there maybe better upgrades available. Correa was once a very good player.....he's not that player anymore.

Bregs was a gold glover last year and brings a clutch factor that is hard to replace. Not saying he deserves 6-years from anyone, but 3-years and $120 million Boston gave seems about right to my non-GM brain. Houston could have kept him with a deal like that, instead of a 1-year qualifying offer.

Houston has done a pretty good job of navigating a semi-rebuild with their farm while hanging onto some lifers that have fuel still in the tank. Most people should be able to admit that some of the FO moves are head scratchers at best.

They were. And not very good ones either.

They looked at Suarez but I don’t think they were willing to give up what the Dbacks wanted for a rental. Other guy talked about was Ryan McMahon who went to NY. He wouldn’t be an upgrade over Correa.
