Maybe we did have this discussion
We'll have to agree to disagree.

I don't want to do that. I want to create a TD Indycar Team Championship.

Just to make sure you're understanding my logic:
- In the example we gave, Penske would be penalized for having two cars finish 1-2 in the weighted average system. If only the highest finishing car is counted, then Penske has 20 points. If both cars are counted and weighed, then Penske has 18 points (and probably less given they have three cars). In other words, the average Penske car will have to finish higher than the sole Ed Carpenter car or else Ed Carpenter will have more points.
- Given we are seeking to establish a team championship, the entire team's performance ought to be taken into account.
- The weighted average system also sharply penalizes DNFs.

What do you think the finishing points should be? Do you want to adopt the CART scoring system?

I don’t keep up like some of you guys, but saw the Will Buxton news yesterday, which was when I found out FOX was taking over broadcasts and I’m really excited about it. NBC never seemed to give a shite or promote it worth a shite. Half the time I didn’t even know a race was happening until it was over, and I follow sports pretty closely.

I'm a retired software guy and retired SCCA racer. I got bored after a few years of retirement, so I got a part time gig as a Course Marshall at Sebring International Raceway, (which is owned by NASCAR, specifically they own the lease).

The course is rented 320 days a year. Chevrolet/Pratt and Miller did development on the original C8 race car there. Ferrari came over and did development on their WEC Hypercar here. All of the IMSA LMPh cars did the majority of their testing at SIR. I imagine Genesis will show up in the near future with their LMPh car.

You never know who's going to show up!

It's a great gig this time of year. I had mentioned this job in some previous race threads a couple years ago.

That’s awesome man! I want to make Sebring one day. Is it a big party like I’ve heard Petit Le Mans is?

I think SIR for the 12 Hours along with Watkins Glenn for the F1 were the original race track parties back in the 60's and 70's.

The 12 Hours still has a strong party atmosphere, but NASCAR has reigned it in quite a bit. It's still a great time, I highly recommend.

It's still my Spring Break after all these years.

Considering all of your experience, which track do you think produces the best racing (IMSA and Indycar)?

I'm biased, Sebring is an old WW2 B17 bomber base, Hendricks Field. Turns #1 and #17 are still the old concrete from the runways. It's uneven and bumpy as hell. However, that is the reason everybody tests here. If you can get your car's suspension to work SIR, you can get it to hook up anywhere, that's why everybody tests here.

Additionally, Indy Car tests religiously at Sebring on the short Club Course. Indy Lights tested last week. The big boys will be here in February.

I saw a program where they said your race car takes sixty percent of it's abuse at Sebring.

Does anyone care to venture some predictions for the IMSA season?

I'll give it a shot:

Some Indycar news: Penske Entertainment is now the promoter for the Nashville race. Indycar wants to prioritize this race as a marquee event, and Penske knows how to do to it. I think they're going to have to move it off of Labor Day weekend and the beginning of college football season (just my $0.02).

Mike Cannon has left Prema as their race engineer. Apparently, he felt like they were not taking his advice. This will make their transition to Indycar even more challenging.

Indycar has to find a streaming option. Even IMSA has one with Peacock! This is imperative for its success going forward, especially with younger fans.

I'm just not sure younger fans are into racing, or sports in general.

F1 is very popular and the NFL is shattering viewership records/TV ratings. But Indycar and IMSA haven't been really kicking arse in terms of TV viewership. A lot of eggs are being put into the FOX broadcast deal basket for Indycar.

BMW on pole in GTP

Both Mustangs 1 & 2 in GTD Pro is awesome, too. Those are some badass cars.

Qualifying results
GTP
1. 24 BMW (BMW M Team RLL)
2. 93 Acura (Meyer Shank)
3. 7 Porsche (Porsche Penske)
4. 31 Cadillac (Whelen)
5. 85 Porsche (JDC-Miller)
6. 60 Acura (Meyer Shank)
LMP2
1. 22 United Autosport USA
2. 52 PR1 Mathiasen
3. 2 United Autosport USA
4. 73 Pratt Miller
5. 11 TDS Racing
6. 99 AO Racing
GTD Pro
1. 64 Ford (Ford Multimatic)
2. 65 Ford (Ford Multimatic)
3. 48 BMW (Paul Miller)
4. 3 Corvette (Corvette)
5. 9 Pfaff (Lamborghini)
6. 4 Corvette (Corvette)
GTD
1. 120 Porsche (Wrights)
2. 57 Mercedes (Winward)
3. 45 Lamborghini (Wayne Taylor)
4. 32 Mercedes (Korthoff)
5. 12 Lexus (Vasser Sullivan)
6. 78 Lamborghini (Forte)

The Porsches and Cadillacs struggled in GTP qualifying.

United Autosport USA continues its LMP2 dominance, regardless of continent.

A front row Ford lockout in GTD Pro! Behind them loom the two yellow Corvettes, who I think are the favorites for the championship. The Vasser Sullivan Lexus piloted by Indycar star Kyle Kirkwood really struggled.

Much of the same in GTD, with Winward starting on the front row. Interesting to see two Lamborghinis at the front.
