Which one? I think there is a Portugal and a Brazil.

The vet from Portugal. I think the other was Souza. There’s also a Pedro Sousa lol.

Here is a new conditions wrinkle.

Richard Gasquet recently shared his annoyance regarding the change in the quality of tennis balls used on the ATP tour.
Gasquet is not the only player to bring forth criticism against the change in balls being used on tour. Following his title win at the 2023 Qatar Open, Daniil Medvedev also raised questions about the new balls and linked the changes to the prevalent wrist and elbow injury issues being faced by many players on tour.
In an interview with L'Equipe on March 30, Richard Gasquet backed up Medvedev's views as he shared his own experience with the new balls, which are much slower in comparison to the balls being used previously. He also commented on the tendency of the balls to get big and balloon up.
"We have a problem since COVID, all the balls are slower there is no longer any doubt about it. I've been saying it for two years, it's nothing new. As soon as they got that big (mimics a balloon), I said to my trainer, 'What is this shite?' Now people are starting to talk about this everywhere, but I'm sure they are not like before," Gasquet said.
Gasquet added that the change in balls hindered his natural playing style as he couldn't exert the same amount of control over the new balls. He expressed his frustration over the "supermarket" quality of the balls in question.
"So they were light, fast, it was one of my strengths, I was able to control them very well. Now, it doesn't matter the brand and with only a couple of exceptions, its quality is close to being supermarket," he added.

I mean, yeah. Imagine if MLB players had to adjust to new balls in every park on top of all the other differences. But the slams aren’t part of the ATP/WTA so I don’t know how it would work.

I'm curious why Shelton chose Estoril over Houston. It's not like the field is any easier for sure, and both are 250s. Maybe he just wants to play more on "real" clay.

I was watching a bit of the women in South Carolina. I wondered if some pros feel green clay is worthless prep. I wouldn't personally know as I have never played on red. It's so early in the season, though, that I don't see the need to rush to Europe, unless you want to already be there for MC.

Ben Shelton +118 against the corpse formerly known as Dominic Thiem? Yes sir I will.

Fell into the same trap. Can't win them all. Shelton still has plenty of holes in his game. Also, his peak is incredible but he seems to get lazy at times.
Eta: Hoping we get something out of Houston today. Seems like they should have started matches earlier this morning instead of waiting around for more rain to come.

I was eying Rune and Sinner futures. Not anymore... Sinner is in the same Quarter as Djokovic. And Medvedev, Rune, Norrie, and Zverev are in the same Quarter.
Meanwhile Tsitsipas Quarter is a joke. Would be surprised to see super long-shots Zapata Mirelles or Jarry come through there. Especially if Tsitsipas shoulder is still bothering him.

Yeah that Rublev quarter is just as bad imo.
I didn't realize ATP Houston was a 2-week event

Just saw the update that they're going to try to squeeze 4 rounds in 2 days. But they're still not starting matches until 11AM. They just finally finished the 1st round match between Purcell/Altmier in a mud pit.

Guess I could look it up if I wasn't lazy, but there must be a tour-wide 11 AM rule that can't be bent or broken.

I was happy to see that the most scenic tournament in the world starts tomorrow.
I think Borna +105 tomorrow v Jarry is good value.
I know that you're supposed to think Shelton will suck now on red clay. But, +340 against Grigor on Monday seems a little much. Shelton could serve bombs and get it to a few breakers and win. Grigor isn't that good.

It will never hit, but after talking it up... I have to put a token bet on Bernabe Zapata Miralles at +20000 and a real bet on Jarry at +6600. Some real hedging opportunities if either on can make it past Tsitsipas. Clay is Fritz's worst surface (plus Miralles beat him at the French last year) and I can't see Tiafoe making it to Monte Carlo on time considering he played 2 today and might play 2 matches tomorrow.
Adding Rublev +3300 because Ruud sucks and his quarter is weak.

Hurkacz 3 tiebreakers on clay lol.
Yeah I'm gonna be taking Jarry in some form, either to win the quarter or make the final. Or each match if I have to.

Foe has a Tuesday start in MC so I guess he'll go all out in Houston.

I'm taking these long shots not thinking they'll win, but hoping they make a run and give some solid cash out/hedge opportunities.

Welp. That Lotto didn't last long. Vs Bonzi was the one match I thought I wouldn't have to sweat.

I had him to win his quarter too, and Norrie
