The lack of yellows is messing with people's strategies. Some need to save fuel, so as the tires wear out I hope to see a lot of passing at the end of the race.

Edit: Oh they are saying that if there are no more yellows, Palou isn't going to make it and will need a splash and dash. That would be awesome, Newgarden will close up on him in the championship.

Darn, Palou got the yellow he needed!

Too bad for Lundqvist. Great debut until the crash.

Darn, yellows breed yellows.

At least they threw the red flag immediately so we get a several-lap shootout to the end.

Nice win for Kirkwood!

The Long Beach winner wins his second race on another tough street course.

Palou finished P3, just ahead of Newgarden so he extends his championship lead a little with four races to go.

Why is Herta out of just about every race despite starting up front? Bad strategy? Bad driving? I don’t get it.

It's been a mix of things. In the last couple of years Colton has thrown away at least two races by crashing on his own while in P1 or P2. And people are saying that since his father Bryan moved over to be Kirkwood's strategist, Colton's strategist has made a few mistakes, while Bryan has managed Kirkwood to two wins this year.

With all of the hype around Herta and/or Pato going to F1, it's been Palou that has proven that he's the best guy to move over. Pato and Colton have the speed but are not complete drivers yet.

That was an excellent race! It was awesome to see the drivers avoid the typical crashes for most of the race. They seem to have figured out the circuit, just in time for it to change.

Lundqvist had a wonderful debut. He clearly has a bright future behind the wheel. I'm not sure who he'll be racing for next year though. Isn't he signed on with Andretti?

I was hoping Herta could podium, at a minimum. He had a poor race, going into the wall twice. The first time, he must've lost seven or eight spots in a blink of an eye simply because he got loose in the corner coming off the bridge.

I was hoping to see Palou have to splash and dash and Newgarden potentially overtake him. Newgarden didn't have the pace on Palou the whole race yesterday.

Kirkwood is impressive on the street circuits. But Palou has to be the favorite to win this weekend at the Indy road course.

The pit lane will be drastically different, but the track will almost be a mirror of the current track, just on the other side of the river.

It’ll be interesting to see how they adapt to the new layout. The track overall will be able to be wider @ the hard breaking turns, but going down 1st street will be interesting with the big elevation changes going downhill, and then the run up Broadway will be an uphill turn to 4th street, but at least those two places will be pretty wide.

Good for Rahal! He was the fastest all day and deserved pole. A big day for the PAPAYA ORANGE POSSE too. Should be a good race tomorrow. Surprised to see Palou, Newgarden, Herta, and Kirkwood struggle so much. I reckon they’ll still do well in the race, especially Palou.

i bet Rossi, felix and pato will do everything they can to frick with Palou’s race tomorrow

I also think he will lose the championship to Newgarden bc of this contract drama

last year he had shitty results in the latter half of the season until his contract dispute with Ganassi was resolved right before Laguna Seca

Herta is really fast but has mediocre race craft.

Indycar has gotten so competitive that in order to win you have to execute at an extremely high level.

It is probably the hardest series from a pure competition perspective. Everyone in the top 15 is so dialed in

Herta seems to have all the tools but no toolbox

Linus Lundqvist will substitute for Simon Pagenaud this weekend for the second race in a row.

Pagenaud released a video about his continued recovery from his Mid-Ohio crash:
https://twitter.com/simonpagenaud/status/1688913443833905155

It was announced that Meyer Shank IMSA driver Tom Blomqvist was signed to be a full-time Meyer Shank IndyCar driver next year, replacing Hélio Castroneves, who will do an Indy 500-only program, and also becomes a part of the team's ownership group.

the-race.com/indycar/castroneves-drops-to-indy-500-only-blomqvist-gets-full-time-shot/

Blomqvist drove for Meyer Shank at the Toronto IndyCar race, in place of Pagenaud, but he was taken out on the first lap. So he has still not completed a full race lap in IndyCar, yet he got signed for next year nonetheless.

Zak Brown claims that Alex Palou "will not honor a deal" to join McLaren next year. His statement is a little dodgy since Ganassi's contract with Palou forbids him from negotiating with other teams before September 1.

www.nbcsports.com/motor-sports/news/arrow-mclaren-says-alex-palou-wont-honor-deal-to-join-indycar-team-2024-season-chip-ganassi-zak-brown

As I mentioned earlier in this thread (I think), if Palou doesn't get an F1 seat for next year, he should stick with Ganassi in IndyCar for obvious winning reasons. McLaren appears to be satisfied with their current F1 driver lineup, so Palou shouldn't sign with them for the promise of a future F1 seat.

I updated my post above with the revised starting grid.

I bolded the top 3 guys in the championship. Yeah it looks like Palou is just going to extend his lead unless a storm comes in and messes with the race.

I also marked the position of the guys in the top half of the season standings. Guys like Lundgaard, Rossi, Pato, and Grosjean have a good chance to bolster their standings as we get close to the end of the season.
