My hot takes:
Monahan is really good and is earning his contract. The franchise
Gaudreau is too small and can no longer snipe. Really good passer though. Still young. Will become better
The top 4 D , Gio Hamilton Brodie Stone are really good. Hope all are back.
Tkachuk needs to create an offensive game that is further out from the crease. If he isnt deflecting or redirecting or rebounding he wont score. A rookie so he will get better.
The entire 3M line that carried us, tkachuk frolik backlund dissapeared. Very dissapointing.

I don't think I've ever been more furious after a Caps playoff win. The Leafs got an entire series worth of lucky bounces. Their goals, in order were, off a skate, off a Caps defender, and then set up by a puck off a linesman. Their final goal was 6 on 5. Flukey goals happen, but Jesus, their whole offense was predicated on it last night. Almost off the charts bad luck for the Caps.
But that's not what I was mad about. The refs were a travesty. The goalie interference was utter bullshite, and if Backstrom committed interference, then the Leafs did too on their final goal. But a guy getting pushed into a goalie by a defenseman is not interference. And it certainly isn't when it's outside the crease and the goalie is initiating the contact, not the skater. And the tight whistle for the Caps and the loose whistle for the Leafs on penalties is ridiculous. It is not legal to cross check Justin Williams on every possession. Eventually, someone should call that.
But mainly, the way the refs allow Babcock to delay the game after an icing is pure incompetence. He's getting free timeouts almost every time, and the refs are letting him slow down the game, even letting him put out the wrong players. They have got to start calling the bench for delay of game. It is out of control.
Trotz is letting the officials walk over him. At the end of the day, its his fault. Babcock is working the refs, and they are rolling over for him. Trotz is just sitting there and not engaging in the gamesmanship, and its putting his team at a massive disadvantage. Trotz is getting owned.

And at the end of it, I'm not pissed at the refs, I'm pissed at our coach, who is letting the other guy work the officials as he sits on his hands. Stand up for your team, man.

Yes, Babcock is repeatedly putting on a new player after an icing, just so the refs will kick the player off the ice to bring the original guy back on, wasting more time and giving his players a breather. One time? OK, it happens. But it's happening repeatedly. That's textbook delay of game, and the refs aren't doing squat, other than playing right into Babcock's hands.
Trotz doesn't say a word. and at the end of the game, playing 5 on 6, his team iced the puck 4 or 5 times and never once tried to slow down the faceoff. Totally getting owned.
