My favorite story though is my coach from LSU, had 3 future top 50 players in the WORLD on his Gainseville(FL) High team
But is there something that would account for that? Like, perhaps a high quality tennis "academy" nearby that wasn't a full blown high school (a la Bollettieri) and so the kids went to a regular high school?*
I remember watching Jeff Morrison play at states as a sophomore, and figuring out pretty quickly that he was the best player in the State.....and then I never saw him again. His family smartly moved him to a more tennis friendly location.
Hell, a friend of mine's kid is top 5 in the country in the 14s and strong consideration is being given to a move....and they live in Richmond, which should be a fine proximity for tennis with DC and College Park being nearby. But Florida seems to be where the action is.
_____________
*I think, for example, this is how the one in College Park, MD works. It's not a full-blown school.

Filed away in the category of "nobody cares, buddy" my fantasy tennis league is coming down to the wire. Paris is our last event. I have Murray, Goffy, Stan, Kei, and Cilic. My competition has djoke, dimitrov, berdy, gasquet, and raonic.
I would appear to have the edge on paper, but I think it comes down to if djoke wins Paris, he wins. If Murray wins, I win.
Let't go Andy!

That's exactly the case for the high school my daughter will attend. Both the boys and girls head coaches are also coaches at Southern California Tennis Academy. So they can basically recruit players.

I'll throw in my "nobody cares, buddy" quote, just for future reference. I think Murray is currently a better overall player than Novak, and it will stay that way for good.

Murray is coming for that number one spot. I thought it would take until next spring, but I think he could get it at the year end event. Sock is playing good tennis, even though Isner beat him today. He may need to get rid of doubles.

Nobody beats Marin Cilic 15 straight times

That would give me a sad, but I agree. I still think he's the best doubles player alive right now, but it's a dying game and there's no money or fame in it.

Something has changed with Djokovic in the last 6 months. I watched his match against Dimitrov. Djokovic looks slightly thinner to me and the look in his eyes was less focused.

For good? I don't know about that. I think Novak is dealing with some personal stuff. I think he shall return.

I just think Murray has been on an upward trend ever since the back surgery, and we don't know how high his ceiling might be.
+250 odds for Aussie compared to Novak +110 is definitely intriguing, if you are into illegal things like sports betting.

Which I never would be as it is quite clearly not legal

Isner through against Cilic. Murray advances on a walkover with Raonic. Andrew Murray is your new number one player in the world.

The least exciting #1 player ever? That came out in my head as a joke, but may have some truth to it.

Lendl was more boring. Edberg was pretty boring too.

Sweet "bass pro shops" emblem.

It was even better when he wore Lacoste. I can imagine Rene Lacoste spinning in his grave at a trashy sticker on a preppy croc hat.
Good tournament from Isner. He had his chances today. Looks like year end number one comes down to London.
