And the Lakers just chose a guy who average 2 points per game in college. Unbelievable.

You have a serious gambling problem if you're wagering the name of your unborn child.

Their roster is already full. Anybody they would have drafted would have likely been a 12th man or not even dressed for games. They are already over the luxary tax, so by drafting 2 guys that will play overseas next year they are saving about $3M.

Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter are on 1-year contracts making the league minimum. They could have found potential replacements for a bum like Caracter.

Ebanks and Caracter are better than anybody that was available IMO

They already have 11 players signed for next season (12 if the resign Brown) and the 2 2nd round picks. They could have drafted Lighty and sat him at the end of the bench all season and paid him 500k (which would actually be $1M since the Lakers are over the luxary tax). I would have rathered them take Lighty since he does have some potential, but at the same time you can see why it is financially smart to take a guy that will stay overseas.

Majok averaged 2.3 points per game for a UConn team that didn't make the NCAAs though. He played in the Turkish second division and then in Australia and didn't do all that much better. If you're going to draft a guy and keep him overseas, I can name you 5 better guys in the Turkish league. Hell, Tyler Smith is 10 times the player that Majok is.

alanhahn Alan Hahn
Knicks saw Josh Harrellson at Calipari's "pro day" at Kentucky and they liked him. Big dude who will get the chance to use all 6 fouls.

Over/under before the NCAA puts the kabosh on any kind of Pro Day? Under 6 months.

So Minnesota also got Parsons in the deal with the Rockets. Oh well, wasn't much room on the team for him anyway.

All the big time schools do it for football, I assume they do it for basketball too.

I know. They typically don't do it for basketball, but the NCAA pretty much hates Calipari. Where there's a will (and an NCAA bone to pick) there's a way.

ETA: To clarify, UK did it because of the lack of an NBA Draft Camp this year. Usually scouts won't travel in like that, but instead have guys come out to work out in groups at their facilities. I wouldn't be surprised if Pro Day for BB becomes more common as the NCAA rules change to shorten the time between the end of the NCAA season and the NBA Draft.
