But people coming in here and saying its a waste of money, you don't own anything, you can watch the video for free on YouTube, etc. without even trying to understand the concepts is kinda sad.

Its true the video part of it is completely and uttterly useless except for marketing purposes it would be less confusing if they just called it NBAcoin

i predict there will be mega threads looking to buy these cards within the year on this board

i would not be surprised. i might buy some packs, frick it. however...

one more thing i don't quite get and it's likely relating to the concept of digital ownership. you posted that wallet/collection earlier and i looked at it. i can see and enjoy the full extent of the "card" or highlight without even owning it?

this is all about just owning a certain serial number essentially. im not shitting on anything and i very much believe that people are spending tons of money on it and that the number could grow exponentially.

but, lets face it. there is no inherent value to these, there is nothing remotely cool about it. you are paying for a serial number. you get nothing for it. =

again, more power to the people able to make money off of this. you understand modern human behavior more than i do. or at least know how to exploit it better.

There is suppose to be some game involved with this. If that's the case, im not sure why the serial would matter anymore if it could be all used the same

I've laid several reasons why digital assets have intrinsic value

you've formed a hard opinion without even trying the product and labelled anyone who values the idea as a "uncool loser"

id encourage you to keep an open mind. opening packs is pretty enjoyable experience and I'm quite confident this will be the new wave of collecting for younger people.

well yeah, i think card collectors, autograph seekers, and now digital card collectors are lame af. that doesn't mean it's not economically viable. i definitely think this has a good chance to take off.

Can we agree that the highlight part of it is not in any way an asset and has absolutely no value intrinsic or extrinsic and is completely and utterly useless?

What it really is, is a cryptocurrency and that has value the same way any other cryptocurrency has right?

You’re paying for something that is not unique, limited, or exclusive in any way, shape or form.

There is value to the baseball cards even if I personally don’t value them. There is no value to owning a free clip of a sports highlight. Like I said if they were doing something truly tangible that was limited and exclusive like the basketball example I mentioned earlier, then yes there is value there. This is not exchanging anything of value.

This is in no way comparable to Bitcoin, which, even though I don’t use, I understand how it is valuable to some. There is no value here. This is like when the Dutch built an entire house of cards economy around dandelions (or was it daffodils?) and the bubble burst. But at least they had a flower to show for it. You paid for something that I can grasp on my own via a dozen different media websites. There isn’t even ownership of the clip itself. You “own” a copy of the clip. A clip that literally anyone can “own” and view without giving a single cent to possess.

Isn't the "value" of any particulat NBACoin ultimately tied to the success of said player? Assuming they all have the same manufactured scarcity of a 500-piece run or whatever.

If Zion tears both ACLs and never plays again, is that "NBACoin" of his first block going to tank? It would have to, right? Ultimately the market would be the same as traditional cards, except they are digital.

It's weird as frick to me, but I think I at least get it.

right. the Zion block is a legendary play and it was a first series release and if he becomes a hall of famer the value increases or vice versa

I do think the scrub player market is a little too frothy. I've flipped guys like thanasis for 1000x what I paid for it

The print runs go up to 50,000 at this point. Which means you could be the first to own the 27645/50000 Deni Avdja first NBA assist for the low low price of $200!!!

Thats where I think the problem with this market lies. There's cards here that are much less scarce than a regular card and still selling like hot cakes. I've seen plenty of cards or fringe players selling in the hundreds. frick that.
