PayPal founders, among others, recently invested $2 million into BitPay

Well, if they can make Bitcoin a Paypal-like system where they can charge a fee for basically facilitating the transfer of money for purchases then it might be a smart investment.

That's not the same things as saying that they believe that bitcoin is the future of money.

Well, Peter Thiel only invested $500,000 in Facebook back in 2004. so would it be safe to say that he feels more confident in BitPay than Facebook?

No. It simply means the price for playing this particular game is a little more expensive.

What is it going to take for me to post good news in the bitcoin community and one of you guys to finally say, "Hey, you know, the future looks bright for bitcoin."

I mean, if you go back through my posts from when I first started discussing bitcoin, I've probably posted over 100 positive developments in the bitcoin community, like news about VC's entering the fold, or sites like reddit accepting it, etc. and it seems like every single time you guys find a way to dismiss or marginalize it.

You are missing a revolution happen right before your eyes.

What do you mean by "positive news"?

VC investment? Yeah, that's positive news in the respect that some rich people have identified a "future" for bitcoin but that future obviously doesn't involve the replacement of money, it involves using bitcoin to make more of it.

Think logically. Why would mega rich venture capitalists have any sort of interest in backing an instrument that replaces or seeks to otherwise infringe on the dollar's turf?

Calling bitcoin the next Paypal is hardly dismissing it. Paypal revolutionized Internet commerce and has made a ton of money. But bitcoin is not going to become some sort of standard alternative currency.

In fact, the VC involvement that you're touting pretty much ensures that.

Even if you're right, which is not actually certain, but even if you are, what do you think will be the effect?

I don't understand your fascination with MtGox when attacking Bitcoin.

Let me repeat:

quote:

The seizure is the beginning of what is likely a long procedure to find additional laws that Mt. Gox may be in violation of and possibly look into a money laundering angle. They even have the power to go through their customer records looking for tax cheats (there are an astounding number of customers who are publicly announcing that they don’t have to pay taxes on bitcoin which is wrong wrong wrong).

Mt.Gox's customers list is going to be turned over to the DHS, can you not see where I'm going with this?

That would require you to realize that bitcoin replacing the dollar would only hurt them if they hoarded cash instead of investing. Seeing as they are venture capitalists I think that implies that they don't hoard their cash.

You gonna be wiki's wingman at that bar mentioned in the OP? You could wear your Che Guevara-styled Ludwig von Mises shirt. Y'all could "accidentally" get in an argument about Austrian vs. Chicago in front of some impressionable Ron Paul sloot.

You must have to do some serious mental gymnastics in reconciling the non aggression principle with using roofies.

bitcoins for a bar sound like a fantastic idea especially in a place like manhattan. Considering drinks are $20 with a cost of a couple bucks, take the bitcoins and if they go up in value you win, if they drop you probably still are ahead of costs.
