That is so sweet.
I really respect those folks who have been working for XOM for 25-30 years who have become millionairs by not even really trying.

Those guys did nothing but buy Exxon stock in their 401k's and reaped the benefits of multiple splits, etc. Definitely worked out for them...but I think those days are over.

Yes. I have a few in my family like that and had a friend that recently did some retirement/investmant planning stuff for several Exxon guys in the Baton Rouge area.
Those guys generally would have been just happy to get their houses paid off by retirement and have enough money for a bass boat and a few vacations a year.
Most of those guys had well over $2 million at retirement.
The two in my family that I know of live such frugal and simple lives, I'm betting they could live off the dividend payments alone.
More power to them.

Not only were they getting a 1 for 1 @ 6% match they were getting 7 on their 6 for a long time. Plus whatever discount they were getting on the CO stock. Many of them were playing the market with their stocks for years before they cut all that out.
But, if any of you have had to do work in Exxon BR, you know how shitty of an environment it is to spend 20-30 years of your life in.

I knew it used to be pretty bad, but things have been pretty good for at least ten years now.

I've got Exxon ... thanks to a dear old great aunt whose husband was an attorney for then Esso. Let's just say she had LOTTTTTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS of stock when she died. And I was fortunate to receive a fraction.

Just curious ...why do you think it's over?

My grandfather bought 1 share in 1968 when he retired to give him an even 200 shares. He never purchased another share. When he died in 2005, my mother and her 3 sisters inherited 6400 shares to split between the 4 of them.
