Truly, how have those tariffs charged by other countries affected your life or your fellow American's life? I know they haven't affected my life. In fact, life has been pretty awesome for most of us, imo. In the grand scheme of things, most of us have decent food on our plates every day, we're free from war, our kids are free to pursue their dreams, a paper cut isn't going to kill you because we have easy access to antibiotics, we get a few vacations a year, and retirement accounts and homes that trend upwards. Like, what more do we need? If you can't find happiness with those things, then you won't find happiness with more (Maybe I need Chickfila open on Sunday, but I don't need much more). We are currently the 1%ers of human existence. It's just my Buddhist-like tendencies coming out, but existence is inherently hard, and most of us are lucky that we get to play it on easy mode.

Anyways, sorry for getting philosophical in an economic thread. I'll take it back to the subject: As an American manufacturer, the tariffs will not benefit me. They will only harm me. I'll pay more and sell less. You want to help me? Get out of my way and let me do what I do best, and don't tax me to death when I succeed.

You really think the middle and lower class, who've seen significant inflation over the past few years and are continuing to get squeezed over and over are just going to suck it up and continue to get squeezed even more over the next 2(at a very minimum if tariffs are long term) years?

The dam will break at some point.

Very good point considering the inflation that had occurred over the last few years and the platform in which he ran on was to lower costs.

Now they are saying the opposite. Obviously Trump cannot be reelected, but this would be very unpopular with the voting Republican mass to ask them to pay more.

However once again I think he backs down pretty quickly

Nah. Sounds like you believe this. I don't. Money trumps this ideological thinking. I am fortunate enough to be fine either way, but the masses will be hurt and turn on this rich kid approach to running the country. I don't engage in much political talk, and am speaking from a financial point of view.
