Sounds like Greenville SC

Prob not the board to ask this, but Ninety-Six, SC checks all your boxes. Currently 10 degrees less than Fairhope, AL (what I thought was the answer). Sitting at pool with waitress asking me what I want to drink.

Decent Schools, not great. Just hired two engineers who went to Ninety-Six High School (Clemson and SC). Hr away from airport and everything else. Greenville, SC, Columbia, SC, Augusta, GA all an hr away. Only thing really pissed about is not enough little baws to play contact football.

The Springs is getting quickly unaffordable unless you want to live in the suburb sprawl in the plains towards Kansas.

thanks all - really good suggestions and many places that hadn't previously come to mind.

Colorado Springs is where we currently call home. In general we love it.

A couple things of note:
It’s getting stupid expensive. Our house we bought for $399k in 2018 we’ve gotten offers as high as 605k in the last few months.

I was not expecting Colorado Springs to have the crime that it does. Get in a decent neighborhood and you’ll be fine, but the amount of crime here surprised us.

The drivers in this town are the worst of any place I’ve driven in this country and many of the large international cities too. I cannot stress enough to you has absolutely fricking horrible the drivers here are.

Great food scene, tons to do, absolutely gorgeous views from anywhere in the city just about.

I got a fully remote job and did a lot of research on where to move to - priced out 30 different areas or so. I didn't want to live rural because internet can be spotty in rural areas and I need strong internet for my job.

But my main factor was low cost of living - I want to be able to make my dollar go far and save money. Preferably in states with no income taxes but I was willing to go to a state with income taxes if that could be offset by saving money in other areas. Another factor was no democrat run states. Purple states were fine but not blue states.

1. Sioux Falls, SD
2. Fort Worth, TX
3. Houston, TX
4. Chattanooga, TN
5. Las Vegas, NV

Were the top 5. I picked Fort Worth by the way.

you're right, but any conversations about places to live on the OT are just...insufferable.

i can edit to add that this decision is driven mostly by achieving Coast FIRE/Barista FIRE by the time we come home to the states.

Colorado Springs is where we currently call home.

thanks - this is helpful. places in colorado ostensibly check a lot boxes in terms of what we're after. any insight into places that aren't the Springs but maybe next on the list? i've heard/read others rave about some of the suburbs of Denver (Louisville, Loveland, etc).

Compared to Denver down the road, Co Springs is dog cheap. We just left the greater Denver area and I can see and feel the difference in the standard cost of good across the board.

Affordability is out the window here. We left Colorado for good about 2 weeks ago, and the only places I would (realistically) move back to there are Co Springs for the medium sized city, and Buena Vista for the small town vibe.

Northwest Arkansas, though I’d advise areas outside of Fayetteville. Though Fayetteville is routinely on US News top 5-6 places to live in the country, the traffic is really starting to get bad.

IMO live on west side specifically SW otherwise it's not worth moving here. OCC is fun and tons of outdoor stuff but if you can't walk to it or have a five minute drive not worth it.

Accurate. Most of my neighborhood are from California or New York so they think the Springs is cheap as hell.

People moving here from the south will have a different experience.

Yup.

Look up on signal mountain for the good public schools.

It's where all the wealthy white people move once their kids hit schooling age
