What? you mean sitting on your cash for 2 years waiting for the big crash is not a great strategy?
It is absolutely not a great strategy...what if -25% never comes? When do you get back in? How long do you wait? What if the market goes up from here?

This is market timing - by definition. Here's a hypothetical for a client with $100k of cash available to put in the market:

--S&P 500 drops 18%

--Me: "Wait until the return gets to -25%..."

--S&P 500 never gets to -25% and is actually up +8% from the bottom several months later.

--Me: "It'll get there. Wait until the -25% comes..."

--S&P 500 is up another 6% a year later.

--Client: "So because you keep telling me to wait, I have lost out on a 14% gain in less than two years? That's $14k I missed out on..."

And that is when I get fired and sued. If a do-it-yourselfer wants to try and do all that themselves, then go for it. As for me, a fiduciary, who wants my clients to make money over a long period of time, that's an absurd strategy to take.

Why don’t you tell the client the truth?

You know, that we live in a failing banana republic with a fake economy

My response was directed to the gentleman who thinks this board is just a bunch of gamblers when in fact most invest the "smart" and time tested ways.
I am that gentleman and I do think the majority of those who actually post on this board are gamblers that try and make money fast on speculative strategies they can't afford. If you think your strategies are "smart" and time tested, I would firmly disagree. Most people who try what you are doing would be ruined financially.

Again, you made some very risky bets and made a lot of money. Just because you came out on the winning side doesn't mean what you did was "smart". If Warren Buffett bought $100 million of Beanie Babies in 1995 because he thought it was a good investment, would you consider that "smart"? Hell no. Can he afford to do it? Hell yea.

Just because you bought X number of Bitcoins when they were worth $5,000 and it paid off doesn't make it smart or time tested. It sounds like you were simply able to afford the risk (though I don't know that for sure).

The truth is painful for most to acknowledge .

Boomers parents did like 8 hours at the factory or coal mine and went and got drunk at the bowling alley then hopped in the studebaker and went home to a hot meal

Instead of continuing this amazing lifestyle boomers voted for nafta and sentenced their kids to excel spreadsheet prison for life

“Time tested strategies” aren’t going to work anymore because the entire “economy” is people selling junk made in other countries to each other and cooking the books

China steals our technological advancements before we’re even able to use them due to government red tape

Everybody weighs like 300 lbs

It’s joever bruh

Let me get this straight - you advocate for incredibly risky, NOT time-tested investment behavior because...you think our constitutional republic is as good as dead...

I don't know how some folks on this website get sleep with the anxiety that should produce.

Just keep buying that ge stock bruh

The safe investing and the risky investing will have the same result. In 5 years they’re gonna give us good boy points instead of money based on your track record of changing your fb profile pic to a black square and support Ukraine

That is, as long as China doesn’t get us first

This is laughably wrong. Please tell us what sectors that China has higher technological advances than the U.S.

If you believe this, why take more risk? What even is risk?

Most of the guys on this board made their money on speculative penny stocks and crypto. So you have come to the right place . In the end its all about making money so there is that. Can see how a financial advisor could have a heart attack reading most of the post/recommendations on this board

Yea - was pretty astounded when I first started reading the posts here. Every now and then I'll get sucked into a thread and discussion like this one.

Not sure I understand. Do you ever pay anyone to do something you don't feel like doing yourself or know you can't do yourself? That defines my entire client base --> investors who have either failed trying to do it themselves or investors who can't take the anxiety and stress of making sure they're invested appropriately to meet their long-term goals. Do-it-yourselfers are terrible clients and I have sent prospects elsewhere if I felt like they were just going to call me every week to tell me how to do my job.
