quote:This is a silly question. Of course you should do it. The hell with the money. You can make more money, you can't make more time. I spent a semester in Austria in college and it was the best time of my life and it isn't even close.
Upon graduation, I want to spend 4-6 weeks living in Italy before I start working

My sister just did 2 months in Europe for $2, 000 not including travel.

You should probably make 100% certain that the job is your when you get back before planning anything. You definitely don't want to come home owing $7000 with no job.

I am considering taking out a 5-7k loan
I spent about 7k for 10 days in Rome and Florence for my honeymoon last year. Plane tickets alone will run you $2500 on the low end if you are departing from msy.

Obviously you didn't read through entire thread. Plane tickets are covered for myself as graduation gift and GF's ticket would be covered on her end. 5-7k is for living expenses and any other activities. You were there for your honeymoon. I assume you were staying and doing pretty luxurious things. We won't be. Simply need somewhere to live for the time span for that amount.
As Jake88, that was a terrible analogy. I don't spend my life chasing monetary things. They don't matter and I grew up in a modest family. This is an experience and a memory that will last forever. The BMW and house you are referring to are not. I have the rest of my life to save, what's one splurge at 22 years old gonna hurt.
