We have a non diesel passat and are really getting screwed.

Even though our car is not affected, the value plummeted because of the brand as a whole.

Of course there is no compensation for us

This is going to be fun, why would I need to add two years depreciation?

Because if you get in a wreck and total the TDI in 2018 and have put 40k more miles on it, you think they're going to give you your current 2016 KBB value? Which, I might add, is substantially less than the 09/15 clean trade value VW is giving you.

You may want to explore an option other than traditional comp and collision policies based on book value, what you are describing is your situation not mine.

You do realize there are other options right?

Allstates new car replacement policy works well for this purpose if the vehicle is new enough in this situation. I am sure others have a simular option, ask your agent.

I normally would not carry one of these policies but in MY situation with THIS VEHICLE it seemed a reasonable hedge against the benefit of esentially having a free car for two years that the wife loves, gets great milage, and has full warranty.

The fact that the model I have will be unavailable is actually a benefit to me in the T&C of my policy.

You have no clue what my offer is or what policy I have, therefore please just stop, there is no one size fits all here.

Dunno what you mean about uploading the initial ID docs months ago--the settlement wasn't approved months ago. If you didn't upload your registration, proof of insurance, and info on any loans/lien holders on the car, you may need to send in more documents. I'd done the initial registration & gotten the buyback estimate, but I still needed to go onto the site and upload specific docs.

Re-faxed the missing document again this weekend just to be sure. I've not been able to get anyone to answer the 1800 line or the online chat. So I guess I just need to be patient at this point. I wouldn't mind, really, as I like driving the car. But I'm replacing it with a GTI, so I'm gonna enjoy that too.

Why on earth would you not upload it to the portal? It keeps a copy of the document there so you can ensure they have it.

It took some time for them to approve my ID and registration (especially since I'd scanned an expired registration initially). But, they got back withing a few weeks. Scanned my signed offer letter and uploaded on Thursday. Was able to schedule and appointment last night. January 12th this whole thing will be done. May go car shopping this weekend. Already have to wait 3 days for the check to clear bank and use as a down payment, so I'll be tapping into savings. May just see if there are end of year sales and be willing to liflve with diminished savings for a few weeks.

Not with a salvage title

Apparently this is not true after doing more digging. You can still turn your car in with a salvage title. There is info on the TDI forums about this.

I have a leased Jetta TDI. My lease was coming to an end but I was worried I would not get the payment if I turned it in so I extended the lease for a few months until I saw written confirmation that I would still receive a payment. Turned car in at end of Nov and same day got email saying payment was approved and to schedule appointment to turn in the car. I set the closest appointment I could in January, then called VW claims to ask what I was supposed to do since I had turned in the car already. After a delay she said I would still get check but had to keep the turn in appointment and would receive check a few days after that.

I faxed the initial doc because I didn't realize a form was needed and I was midway through the upload. There was no option, once I faxed, to change the submission type to upload. So I refaxed and it posted a couple days later. At present, you cannot get a phone rep or an online chat response, but the portal is telling me that I will wait 10 days for document verification and another 10 days for approval/offer. Based on that timeline, it will be mid-January at the earliest for my turn-in date.

I'm fine driving the car until then....but I'm also eager for a new GTI, so....

My SinL has an appointment for Jan 4th at a dealer in Baton Rouge. She's taking the cash....

I got my offer letter signed and approved allowing me to schedule turn in about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Earliest date I could schedule was January 12th. I have a feeling it won't be until February if you haven't gotten an offer yet (they still have several days of approving/document review after you sign the offer). It's not a quick process.

The only quick thing was actually the buyback itself. Took about 20 min and the money was in my checking account within 48 hours.

Good. I bought a new car and put down what I am getting back from VW. Can't wait to see that account back up. Haha.
