I am looking to get the new Kia Telluride. We went and test drove the S model today as it was the only one they had on the lot. The one we test drove was one they were keeping there to show as the other 4 they had were already sold. The salesman said basically they all are preordered and when the cars come in they will call you to come pick it up. The duration can range from 3 months to 3 weeks.

My question is....I have 3 Kia dealerships in my area. I have built what I want on the Kia website and it gives me the option to get quotes from these three dealerships. Granted I have to give them my contact information in order to get a quote, would that be a smart way to start off. My thought is that this would give me a starting point to know who has the best price and I can work it from there. I doubt they are going to move much on the price as they are hot to sell right now but I am always looking to get the best deal. I have never bought new so this is a little bit different experience than my past purchases.

I would wait for the hype to die down but I am not sure how much longer the wife's car has.

I have read the Will Cover thread, just not sure the best starting out tactic.

I know, good friend from high school. the GM at Baton Rouge Kia dealership. They are doing $2k above sticker on Telluride, Sterling (laf) is doing $5k above, and NOLA dealer is doing $2k above sticker. He said I would buy at sticker if I wanted (only $2500 mark up any ways for SX trim). No movement on price, they are literally sold out, had one to test drive that was an EX and all SX in region are ‘pre-sold’. Palisades at ralph sellers are $2k above sticker too. Either pay to have the ‘toy in town’ or wait until next year for them to cool off

None of that works on a hot, in-demand car.

It's odd. Kia marketed the shite out of the Telluride, yet it seems like 2020 supply is very very low.

Ehh I get that to an extent. But we're talking about a 3 row family hauler built on an existing minivan platform. You'd think they'd just pump those fricking things out as quickly as they possibly could and reap the benefits.

I'd wager the VAST majority of potential telluride buyers are the type that goes out and test drives what's on the market, makes a decision and makes a purchase all within a month or two. When they've decided it's time to buy a new vehicle, it's time. Kia is going to lose a sale when someone comes into a dealership and they tell them that the only Telluride they can sell them before the 2021 models come out is a fully loaded top trim for 3k over MSRP. They aren't waiting around for some new model to come available. Not like potential sports car buyers who want "the new corvette" or "the new 911" or something like that where they are fine with waiting months and months for their car to come available in the exact trim and spec they want.
