Well it went down 40%+ before earnings because literally everyone knows it would be bad. You must be new at this
Are you implying that Wall Street analysts intentionally overestimated this quarter’s financials? You might actually be right.

If Tesla is a “house of cards” what does that say about the EV market generally? Of all the EVs out there, it’s the only one I would consider.
The sad truth is Tesla is not the bees knees in the EV market anymore. Believe it or not China companies have a huge advantage in material and battery tech.
Hope we can close the gap.

Look up CATL and BYD. There batteries and new one coming out are the best in the world.
Longest lasting... longest range. Batteries tech that will outlast the life of the car.
How about cars with nearly 1000 miles of range.
Some of the tech is solid state batteries.
I can give you a youtube link but it is hard to get all of the info in one spot. If you want I will give you a single youtube link. But just do a search for these two and you will find a lot of information.
China manufactures 95% of Li batteries and they lead in that field.

Saying they will last 10 yrs and them actually lasting 10 yrs are 2 totally different things.

I’m sure you didn’t mean to imply this, but just to clarify: PHEVs going 1000 miles =\= EV going 1000 miles.
Some of my neighbors have BYD, Cherry, and many have a Togg (essentially Chinese EV tech in a Turkish skin). Not sure if any have the blade battery tech but they ALL have unacceptable software flaws, underwhelming performance compared to the claims, and loads of cheap materials. Just like Tesla. In terms of quality and luxury, none are on the level the EQA 250 I previously had. IMO most Chinese EVs are like an Ali Express version of a Tesla….
*I have never owned a Tesla and have all ICE vehicles now, just drive and drive and ride in Chinese crap regularly.

Tesla had the first mover advantage with EVs but competition was bound to show up and compress margins.
They won't be the first mover with robots or robotaxis so what those margins could be are unclear, if they can actually produce workable tech.
The problem is that the stock is priced as if big Tesla humanoid and robotaxi success is somewhat inevitable.
Throw in Elon alienating a big chunk of potential customers and more downside is definitely possible. This is the last stock I'd ever make price predictions for though.

CATL is one of the suppliers to tesla of their ev batteries.

I don’t think robots or robotaxi is built into the price at all. The next thing to move the needle for the stock is either the cheaper model vehicle being announced or once analyst see the first robotaxi in Austin in June it will be game on most likely as far as price action for the stock.

9 years ago didn't he say we'd see the first robotaxi in a year?

What happened to the EV 18 wheelers.

A lower price model announcement could bump the stock price but lower priced cars typically have lower margins so I don't expect them to affect the bottom line much in the long-term.
And with the stock currently trading at a 530 GAAP p/e extrapolating from 12 cents in Q1 earnings I'd say there's a lot already priced in that may or may not someday become reality.

So typical modus operandi of China.
Trying to keep up with all the things China is going to win in
BYD > Tesla
Chinese Rockets > SpaceX
Deepseek > any other AI

Long term Tesla won’t be worried about car sales. Some people who study the company hard think they might not even sale cars eventually. So yeah I don’t think Tesla is to worried about the more affordable vehicle that much compared to what’s down the line for what’s really going to take the company to crazy levels. Elon was basically ignoring/ seemed to not care to give to much info on it during the earnings call when asked questions about it. It’s robotaxi (cybercabs) energy storage and Bots that’s going to make this thing special.

Funny? that he just doesn't GAF about alienating the biggest consumers of EV over politics. Sure, he's a visionary? about the future of automation, robotics, etc. Big leap right now to just hope Tesla and Elon is the innovator of the future. He most surely appears to be the biggest opportunist of the American government for certain.
