What is the MB's take on Oracle?

Ticker: ORCL
Price: 140.888
Yield: 1.14%

I work for them and can purchase stock at a 5% discount. They withdraw from paycheck every pay periiod for 6 months, then when offering period closes they purchase for 95% of closing price on last trading day.

Good deal as part of overall investment option?

I was considering doing 1% for the Oracle stock and 9% into 401k. Currently doing 10% into 401k with 3% matchin.

Negative Ghostrider! All I know is the publicly available data or publicly released financials. I know absolutely nothing about upcoming booked projects or close to close projects.

I just sold after yesterday’s 13% bump. They missed on revenue and earnings but gave positive guidance especially related to AI. Too much debt for me to stay in indefinitely.

Latest earnings were disappointing, but they announced an OpenAI partnership so the stock popped. I'm watching the stock, but want to wait to see the earnings situation improve before jumping in.

What's your opinion of Oracle Fusion Cloud? We're in the process of upgrading our systems from Oracle EBS to it & it's been a disastrous project so far. Cost & timeline are both way over budget.

We fired Deloitte last month & bringing in IBM & Huron as the new implementation partners.

While I have never worked for a publicly traded company before, I have always heard that you may have increased risk when buying stock in your employer.

I guess the theory is if things go south, you could lose your job and your investment.

Hate to hear that. We are planning the exact same thing about this time next year. We had two workshops w/Apps Associates - one for functional, one for technical - and we feel pretty well prepared, other than the 4 or 5 more projects we must complete to get cloud-ready. All of which are integrations w/other systems.

And pitfalls / advice?

Don't hire Deloitte, or at least be sure they understand what all is really needed to complete the implementation so they can provide a realistic timeline. Much of their team is in India, so there's been a lot of time wasted because of the different working hours.

Also be sure everyone involved from your company truly understands the objectives & requirements of the project.

Ours started in fall 2022 with original go-live date scheduled Feb. 2024. We're now targeting May 2025, but that could still be pushed further.

Oracle will be solid for some time, but not outstanding. They are still the industry leader in RDBMS, however the data storage world is really changing rapidly. MSFT keeps advancing their Azure cloud, pushing AWS in the process, which may be a negative for Oracle. Both AMZN and MSFT run Oracle in their clouds now, however they have their preferred DB systems.

I may be off, but I feel as legacy systems die off and more platforms are born in the cloud, you will see a shift from Oracle's historical dominance. Postgres and Snowflake have really come on strong the past few years.

Their stock has been trending up post covid, however if I was advising a client on what to use for a new project it would not be Oracle. They are still priced too high, when compared to other platforms. Knowledgeable Oracle staff also tend to have a higher premium, especially compared to the mental midgets that can support an AWS or Azure PaaS system.

There are a couple of current threads related to ESPPs (employee stock purchase plans) on here. Depending on the offered market discount and required holding period, those can be great. But yes, with any purchase of stock in one’s employer (open market or through a company sponsored plan), it’s best to not become overweight from a portfolio or net worth standpoint. As you said, if things go south with the company, that could be the time and place that you also lose your job. So when you may need the money, the stock could be down too.

It will be fine in the long run. Similar to the Oracle and VA partnership for EHR for all veterans. Got off to a very rocky start, had a cool down period, and just recently got extended.

Over estimated how quick they could make major shifts in infrastructure/compatibility/rollout. Now the kinks are out and it is gaining steam.

Understood on all points. We have so few, actual SME's which is our biggest concern. Lots of button pushers and very few people who understand the processes and the bigger picture. It's hard to say with 100% confidence, but it appears this will be a huge net savings because our old IT management went retardo-mode with Oracle's bundle licensing. She got absolutely abused. We are paying a ridiculous amount for EBS and Agile PLM annual support including many modules we have never used.

Good luck with your go-live.
