Yep. $1000 is that magical "I want a nice watch" but not "I want a real actual nice $5k+ watch" bracket. The unfortunate fallout from that is a market saturated with $1000-ish junk.

I dropped my omega off for service today and bought a Breitling

I guess I’m turing into a watch guy.

Nice looking watch but I hate things made in China.

Check out the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80.

It would be great for office wear, etc. I know it is on a stainless steel bracelet and not a strap but it is great looking and has an 80 hour power reserve. I love watches and this is one I would recommend, I own one with a blue dial. It is well under $1000.

It is a Japanese movement I believe.

The point is it is a quality watch for the price point.

Marathon used to be a good option at ~ $1000 for a GSAR but now they are nearing $2k. The bracelets are like $500 for a watch with SW200 guts in it.

If i had to do it again, id get something like a vaer or sako quartz rig or save my pennies for Tudor/Omega/Rolex/Blacpain/etc.

I fell into the $1000 auto trap. I should have gotten a quartz marathon.

The movement is Japanese but parts and assembly in China unfortunately.

My next watch will be a Hamilton likely.

Out of hundreds of watches I've owned in my life, the one i regret selling the most is a Marathon GSAR. I sold it to my old neighbor for 750.00 and have asked to buy it back form him dozens of times to no avail.

Second biggest regret is a Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine.
