Social security spousal benefit after a divorce and death- question

My in law divorced a little over 4 years ago and the ex just passed away. She received a letter in the mail yesterday from SSA that she would start receiving his social security benefit. This is quite a windfall, as she was receiving around $1400/ month and now will receive over $3,000 total/ month.
I’m trying to help her plan here as we had no idea this was going to happen.
It appears that they were married over 10 years, neither remarried, and she is over 62. So this looks correct and permanent?
Not trying to help her screw the government, but if she was to remarry she would lose this?

I just read a book about retirement planning and it does appear these numbers match what the book was saying.
Good to see good things happen for people who may need it sometimes.

I had to take a certified copy of my dads death certificate to a SSA office so my mom could draw his instead of hers after his death

I I think you only lose them if you remarry before age 60. Since she’s already passed that, it shouldn’t be a problem. But I would certainly double check that with the Social Security administration.

She should get the higher of the two but not both. I was told after 60 remarriage doesn’t affect it

So she is getting his now and not her own is what you mean? And not the two of them combined? I haven’t seen the details.
She is 71 and has a boyfriend. Neither wants to marry but I just want her to have all of the details.

Yes. The SS gov site will fill you in. If hers is higher than his she keeps hers only and vice versa. Thats the way I understand it
