Any extra forms I have to give to the government is extra complexity. Show me again in the Constitution where income tax is enshrined? It’s not. We just put up with it the last 100 years.

Whether a staff person is a CPA or not, they have the same hourly rate. If I have to put a staff person on 1099s, who bills at $250/hour, I’m losing money because I can’t charge that for a 1099. You don’t know the model, yet as usual, you have no problem opining on it
Ive worked with 4 CPA firms and 3 of them have charged me less for book keeping work such as 1099s that are done by assistants. Some lawyers charge the same for paralegal work, some do not. This idea every company is the same once again shows your ignorance.
This idea everyone has a flat rate no matter who is working on it is pretty damn ignorant. Are you suggesting every law firm has the same rate for each attorney?

On one hand you CPA guys are in here saying “it’s complicated so that’s why it’s expensive”, but then you are also saying “we don’t want to do it so we charge a lot”.
There’s a massive difference between 1099s and 8 state S Corp returns
It’s not an effective use of a CPAs time to do 1099s.
So if you want me to do it, I’m going to charge you like it’s much harder work.
It’s better for both of us for someone else to do the 1099s

Yeah staff, they bill at $250 and a parent bills at $1000 plus

I have a yearly meeting in late October/ early Nov. I ask this every year. Very very little feedback. Eta: I’ll tell you why I think it is. It’s because the CPA is not handling it, and they don’t want to admit that. They are having an assistant do the work which I don’t have an issue with. But even when I ask by email, I get no feedback. When I go to meet with my CPA there’s really nothing.
So here’s what should be happening.
Before the meeting, the CPA should do a quick review of the files, focusing on communications. If the staff person is asking you for this or that, it should be documented.
Then he should be talking to the staffer before your meeting asking about the files and wfat he needs to know.
Then… when you meet with the CPA, the staffer should be in the meeting. The staffers time should not be billed, as this is training and client relations.

If you really want to get some feed back, tell him you want to pay for an hour of his/her time to get what you can do with your books. That signifies you know his time is valuable.
So I know a CPA that has a “buy me lunch” program outside of busy season.
Basically the client treats the CPA to lunch and the client can ask the CPA whatever. Since the client buys lunch, no time is billed.

Every CPA firm I’ve walked into has more people working there that are non CPAs than CPAs between admins, book keepers, etc.
Many CPA firms are moving away from having bookkeepers on staff. Small firms still do, as small firms are always slow to change.and admins are not doing any form of accounting work.
