Put 500 in your account, lose every penny of it, learn from your mistakes.
Put another 500 or so, lose it all again, learn from your mistakes.
Repeat as much as necessary. This is the best way to learn.

As of right now xom is up 1.10% from yesterday
Did you gain enough to cover the commission fees? I always figure it to be 14$.... 7$ in and 7$ whenever you get out.

Due some due diligence on whatever stocks you invest in. Pick good companies, stay away from stocks with a high float (outstanding shares), and 'a lot' is relative to the total number of shares. And try to buy low and sell high.

it's a stock that's basically mutual fund. safe money, no more no less. you'll probably make 20% on it in 2 years.
