I think I officially gave up the idea of passing this weekend.
I was going to the library when my roommate offered me a gin & tonic and watching the Stanley cup. I studied none.
I think that put me past the point of no return.

... must say no to the G&T. Don't let me be a party pooper, brah, better now before you are married, etc.
Just thinking back to 50+ hours/week of dealing with financial matter @ work (this wasn't putting in "face time" to look good at work), and 2-2.5 hours per day commute in bumper to bumper traffic, ugh. The lady of the house would have said, "Yeah, I bet you are studying after work" and she is pretty tolerant.

Well, trying to study for the CFA working these hours has NOT been fun.
Let's just say it's going to be a diving catch at the wall

Having taken the CPA pre-work and now taking L2 (again) while working, it really is just a whole different ball game. I probably got about 30 pages done last night.

I only have one level left and have given up every spring for the last 3 years for these tests. Additionally, I will likely be in a much better position to study (lighter work load) next year.

Random comment:
How worthless is some of the Historic Risk/Return information provided by Vanguard next to its "Model Portfolios?"
I was just screwing around and next to each model portfolio they have "Best Year/Worst Year."
There are 10 portfolios with 8 of them having 1933 as the Best Year and 9 of them having 1931 as the worst.
I think we all know the Great Depression was a crazy time/sucked.

Doesn't use international equity returns, either, nor does the portfolio tracker break international equity into small, mid, large cap or distinguish between domestic/international fixed income, plus includes CEF fixed income as equity, etc. Good luck with that.

Ya, I added VSS to get international small cap exposure since that seemed like the "right" thing to do considering their international stuff is all large cap.
I am still looking for how you would get International Bond exposure. Seems like that would be a pretty substantial diversification area to have if you were trying to index all available markets.

TRPrice, Loomis Sayles, PIMCO, Fidelity, etc all have international fixed income OEF's. iShares has ETF's. Do your homework on hedged vs unhedged, currency risk, quality, etc.

Feeling really crunched for time so decided to quit reading altogether every other day and just do practice tests. On the days in between, I'll read Schweser.
Anyway, have not read Quant yet. One of only sections I've yet to read.
Just took the Quant sections of an old exam anyway and scored a 72%. I took zero statistics in college.
I know I'm playing with fire to think I can common sense my way to a passing Quant grade, but my confidence level just took a giant boost although I'm guarding to make sure it isn't just a false positive.

Schweser'n it up right now, wish my new co-workers would stfu though.
Ridiculously behind schedule but not worried.

ok. i figured taking the cfa you had some sort of business major. when do you take the test?
Posted on 4/23/12 at 8:20 pm to aaronb023
Nope, no business-related major. I did take a finance-heavy law school track. But, really, I do a lot of self-teaching. Always have. If I find some topic I like, I read everything in my path out of pure enjoyment.
Actually learn better that way, in my opinion, when it's not something you "have to do."

I have a feeling you feel my pain. It's almost become a joke around the office. As soon as I get a free night, something "comes up" and I find myself pulling a late nighter. I think it's part of some unspoken hazing routine, as if your superiors decide you should take on more responsibility right when it becomes CFA crunch time.
I'm actually feeling pretty good though.
Read all the CFA books but Quant. Technically also didn't read Corporate Finance, but it's really not that bad and I listened to the Schweser audio.
