They let you stew over it all summer and tell you how you did around August.

Yeah, that always sucks. I'm sure y'all will do fine. Money board's street cred is increasing by the day it seems.

I don't think it is too absurd to consider the MTB "networking".
A bunch of young finance and accounting professionals that all live in the south. Who knows that could happen in the future.

I got over being weirded out by networking over the internet a while ago. It makes sense in this day and age, especially when it's done with respect to similar career interests.

I put in a lot of time, I'm just not sure if I put in enough time. Again, its kind of a mindfrick because you're used to studying for tests and thinking "I need to study X amount to get an A," not "I need to study X amount to pass," but for this (cpa too), it feels like those are one and the same, which makes it difficult to gauge your level of preparedness.

So true. It was odd to me at first but I have come to grips with it.
Just think about the amount of random topics/ideas/threads we see each of us comment on this board...in our free time. I would have total faith in multiple members of this board in whatever they choose as their speciality area. The amount of general business knowledge is impressive, IMO, and I can only imagine everyone's abilities when they are practicing an area for a living, on a daily basis.

What percent equals pass?
For the Bar, it's 70%, and I am not studying like I'm going for the A. In fact, we're encouraged not to do that. If you have enough knowledge to spit out an A worthy answer, there's a great chance you won't finish the exam.

It can't hurt, so long you remember that anything you write on here could come back to haunt you. Yet another reason to avoid the poli board. BTW I just saw a white unicorn on linkedin: a head hunter advertising for IB jobs in NOLA. Of course, you need at least 3 years of experience in an IB first.

Agreed. And wow. Shoot them a resume anyway. It's basically boilerplate to include some sort of experience requirement. I've actually talked to potential employers before who've admitted they'd be willing to hire someone who was still pretty green as long as there was a fit and the person seemed like he could handle the job.

Yeah I don't venture that way very often. If I do it is more just seeing if there is an 'interesting' article that I didn't see somewhere else.
Go for it kfiz; can't hurt.

I agree.

Its the same. They don't tell you need a 70, but you need a 70. CPA is the same thing, just a 74 (for each section). I've heard that about the CPA before too, that anything above a 74 was a waste of time.

I'll shoot the guy an email. If I can get him to reveal the company, and presuming it is Howard Weil, I will just go ahead and initiate contact with the two analysts I know there. I intended to do that post-test anyway, but I'm waiting to see how the NYC thing pans out first.

I wouldn't imagine there are that many people running around NO with 3 years of IB under their belt. I also wouldn't imagine too many people in IB in other markets have a strong desire to move to our small little market here in south LA unless perhaps they're from the area.

No argument there really. I'll send it and see what's up.
Posted on 5/31/11 at 11:35 pm to kfizzle85
I'd be up front with them. Tell them you know you don't meet the requirements listed but that you're a new entrant into the field and are from NO and would appreciate an opportunity to speak with them. Once you get that face time, it's a whole different ball game. And three years goes by fast. There's a great chance they'd remember you in three years after having made initial in-person contact. And then there's the chance they think you'd be valuable NOW. You never know until you know.

The problem is it is a recruiting agency, out of Dallas, with a "email to genericemail@blah.com" type thing. I can't even mail the guy who posted it on LinkedIn. I sent it anyway, I just didn't include any of that. I'm not expecting anything, I know how I realistically need to approach it when I decide to pursue it.

I take my final college test ever (maybe, probably not assuming MBA) tomorrow.
