My daughter is a freshman in college this year and babysat and had a job over the summer. She didn’t file for 2019 because she didn’t think it was worth it. I claimed her as a dependent last year but she was 18 for most of it. Should she file ASAP to get the stimulus?

did she file for tax year 2018 or did you claim her as a dependent for that year? How old was she at 12/31/2018?

I imagine if you claimed her as a dependent you have to put that in your claim and you'll get the $500 or whatever additional for dependents. You can give her that, but she'll miss out on the $1200.

If she qualifies to be your dependent, she won't get a check, but you will get an extra $500 for her.

No she didn’t file for 2018 either. She was 17 on 12/31/18

But she was/is over 16 last year.

Last I heard the $500 was for children under the age of 17.

Keep a watch here I am sure they will have answers up soon...
