Question about how to find a pension account?

My wife’s father recently passed away. In the past 5 years, she wasn’t as close to him as he suffered from some substance abuse issues. His wife, who isn’t very educated and definitely wasn’t as educated on things related to their income, is still living. She is my wife’s Stepmother. My wife is trying to help her get on her feet and get all the income she is entitled to. They pretty much lived government check to government check. It’s my understanding he was on disability and receiving income from the government. He was also getting some sort of pension from when he worked for a railroad (Missouri pacific) that is no longer in business. He also would have multiple bank cards for which no accounts currently exist.
My question is, if you believe he is getting money deposit somewhere from the pension but are unaware exactly where it’s being deposited, is there a resource by which this information can be obtained? I am not even sure he filed taxes annually. Would the IRS have this information?

The Railroad Retirement Board is the equivalent of the social security administration for railroad employees. You can call them and try asking for info on where his benefits were being sent.
A family member recently contacted them to advise that a retiree had died (so stop the benefits). The RRB folks gave a number to a life insurance company that provided $2,000 life policies for many workers. Called and, after sending in some paperwork, collected that $2k that nobody in the family knew about.
You'll have to make sure he really worked for the railroad and not a company that did contract work for them. Many guys work for contractors and say they "work for the railroad."

Is the question-
The pension company doesn't know he's dead and is still depositing checks, but his widow doesn't know where their money is deposited?
My first guess would be to see where his government checks are deposited. If he is getting disability checks electronically, chances are they are being deposited in the same account. Call social security would be the easiest route.
