Can't stand this either. I'm a big believer in at least 150ft wide lots. No entry level new housing is done this way these days.

Looks like you get a lot mor house and land for a good price in Walker.

I agree, can't stand houses that are crammed together with small lots. But it seems like all new construction is like this

What areas are best for you depends on different criteria.
1. Where will you be commuting to. This is important even in a little city like BR because you dont want to live in Zachary and work in South Baton Rouge and you don't want to live in Prairieville and work in North Baton Rouge.
2. Do you require a large yard?
3. Do you want to live "in the thick of things", or in a more urbanized area? Or do you prefer suburban neighborhoods and don't mind a commute?
4. Schools. Do you have children and if so, do you plan on sending them to private schools?
Also, check about flood zones/insurance before you buy.

Yeah, I don't get it at all, except for developments that are either in the city, or are for lower income home buyers. The younger people eat that new construction shite up though.

Commuting to OLOL. It's only 20 miles from Walker to there. We commute 42 damn miles one way to Children's Hospital in downtown Dallas now. We want a big backyard. Have a yellow lab and 2 yo son. Probably wont send him to private school because of the cut in salary but from what we see right now, Walker has some high rated schools.

Compared to 42 we are driving now I mean.

My house is 14 miles from my job downtown and it seems like a bit much. Hah. I suppose it's all relative.

Yeah. I hear you. I'm just used to it so 20 miles seems like 5. Lol.

Anyone know if there are any new developments with new construction houses under 400k? I briefly looked on MLS and only saw a few.

Check out forest ridge in Denham. Houses start around 185000 and top out around 265. Nice small neighborhood
Houseplan like the one you are looking at but only 2400sf for 206000 ia what we just bought back in May

Houston has very good road systems that make longer commutes possible. Houston is also very spread out but many small city centers so that no matter where you live, you don't have to drive more than 10 miles to get 99% if what you are looking for. Schools in Houston are better than most private schools in Louisiana. Property taxes are very large in Houston so just be aware of that if ever looking or comparing.

Wtf is dictating these house prices.
6-7 years ago it was Katrina. Nowadays, I have no clue. It's appalling to say the least, especially being an SEC college town.

I think Bellingrath Lakes is pretty decent for a newish development. Their houses start at $280k, with most at around $330k, I think.

Price of Baton Rouge and vicinity homes Is Shenandoah still nice or has the ghetto come to it? I mean he's only two so school is not in the near future.
Have a friend that has a 3/2.5 that will go to short sale soon if not sold. Can move in ASAP. @ $165k. 1885 sq ft.

We are building a new home in WA state to get back near family. Take a look at home prices along the west coast if you think BR prices are high! Easily triple.
