can someone explain to me how metamask works? i have $30 of ETH and i'm trying to by HEX, but Uniswap is only allowing me to buy $12 of HEX with a $4 gas fee. where's my other $14?

I don't use the Metamask trade application. I connect my wallet to Uniswap for trades. Metamask has high fees and probably hidden spreads possibly with a minimum accounting for your missing money.

I recommend everyone go through their wallet privileges from time to time and revoke anything they don't regularly use. Richard posted this really clean dapp for it.

revoke dapp

It's a shitcoin that has never solved a real world problem. Much like ETH...

That said, in the next cycle it will 10x from here so just buy and then wait for your money to 5x and sell so you aren't screwed at the top.

Can’t be a replaced BTC? Are you all high?
correct, it’s too far along with minimal issues. Maybe 20-30 years from now but with tech advances anything in todays world is at risk

There’s a better ETH coming out any month now that should see decent adoption off the jump. There is nothing that is a better BTC with any type of adoption despite hundreds of projects trying to do it and failing. Btc has reached escape velocity on a world scale now to be replaced

That’s exactly what I’m doing. But for some reason, it’s not reading the entire wallet. It acknowledges that I have 0.0165 ETH ($30-ish), but when I use the “max” button, it only calcs 0.0065 ETH ($11-12) with a $4 gas fee.

What about the rest? Does MetaMask require a minimum in the wallet?

Maybe in 20-30 years from now…

So it can or can’t be replaced?

Any attempt to hardfork BTC to create a better replacement has gotten zero traction. If quantum computing renders SHA256 vulnerable I could see the miners coming to a consensus to change the protocol to a quantum safe encryption standard, but I wouldn’t predict anything more than that.

It doesn’t seem the market wants a “better” Bitcoin. It seems the market thinks Bitcoin is good enough.

Copy all.

But just so I’m clear. Can BTC be replaced or not? Like ever…

I think the probability of Bitcoin being replaced as a function of time gradually goes to zero and is pretty close to zero now. It’s hard to replicate trust built up over the course of time, and any newcomer is going to have a really hard time gaining trust, and there’s just no need for a better Bitcoin. The network is adequately distributed and sufficiently robust. Other applications like DeFi are more suited to other projects, but that’s just not what Bitcoin has ever strived to be.

If we are talking apples to apples in the crypto world, then the answer is no. If we are talking external threats such as quantum computing or the next “crypto” type technology that no one knows exists yet, perhaps. All scenarios in which bitcoin could possibly be replaced are way outside of my investment horizon though.

I'd be more excited if BTC dominance wasn't through the roof. People aren't putting their money in alts right now it seems.

BTC leads the way. Always. Similar to "don't fight the Fed," don't fight bitcoin. Alts will come later.
