Builders gonna build.. My 2nd contract released into the wild
Data storage contract for PRNTS
After HackMoney I got invited to stay on the team to work on a new web3 social music streaming platform. This contract just stores data for things we need that aren't baked into Lens and Superfluid protocols.
If we secure funding, I've been told they want to keep me on as a FT employee and make me tech lead for Solidity/blockchain aspects of the platform

Are you the only builder on this site? May need to prioritize your opinion over anyone else's

I believe I am. My knowing how to code smart contracts doesn't really give me a leg up on markets or what will or won't pop off.
I CAN read smart contracts and look for rug pull or scam mechanisms.
I do try to keep up with development of protocols, but its really Fing hard lol. Especially when I still have a FT job completely unrelated to crypto.
Some of the best protocols don't even have a token right now.
Examples:
- LayerZero is a cross-chain communication protocol that is enabling cross-chain composability for smart contracts (read: enabling smart contract devs to natively cross chains within their applications without traditional bridges)
- Bundlr is an Arweave abstraction that enables instant uploads to Arweave, a storage-focused blockchain. You can pay for Bundlr transactions in many tokens instead of native Arweave (AR) tokens, which are hard to get in the US.

What are your thoughts on Polka Dot? (welcome anyone’s thoughts on this)

I've been thinking about getting into it. I'm a software engineer. What are some good places to start learning?
I'm leaning more towards programming in bitcoin/lightning network though as I am somewhat of a maxi.

Tbh I haven't looked much into Polkadot. I've been hyper focused in ethereum ecosystem so I can build within it, and that comes at a cost of knowledge of the broader landscape.

I don't know about dev resources for Lightning or Bitcoin development. Its much less common to find devs in that arena.
For EVM development, I recommend:
- CryptoZombies (good entry point)
- Ethernaut (a MUST for security)
- Buildspace.so (amazing community to get into. Easy tutorials)
A really great smart contract dev youtuber recently released a 32-hour FreeCodeCamp course, but it might be a but basic for someone that's already a developer.

What languages do you play in the most? Solidity is like a statically typed JavaScript with a bunch of block chain quirks, so easy for people to pick up

Gotchya. Thanks for the response!

Cool, thanks! Java mainly, as that's what I use for work. Ah Ok, haven't touched Javascript since college.

Bookmarked. Thank you Hulk. I am strongly considering going the route you did.

Nice!
You have any development experience? If not, it's a long road. If not, I strongly suggest you start with Harvard's free CS50X course before you even do any Smart Contract courses.
Coming from no background in programming, but still in tech, it took me ~6 months to get basics, and another ~3 months to work in a DAO, and another ~3 months before I did a hackathon.
Here's a really useful Reddit post for a long-term path:

What do y’all think is the best strategy for betting on layer 1 smart contract protocols long term?
I’m thinking something like:
60% Ethereum
15% Polkadot
15% Avalanche
5% Solana
5% Cardano

Better prepare for some Pulsechain in that % when it launches.

A little C++ in high school and college. I remember very little.
