I think GDAX is Coinbase. If you deposit $ and then buy ETH or BTC it still takes 4 days for the $ to be deposited. I'd argue that if you have to wait anyways it's better to buy on Coinbase to lock in your price.

Not true. I've been on GDAX for a month or so and every transaction has been instant. GDAX is the exchange that all coinbase orders get routed through. It's 100% better to use GDAX over CB. The fees on CB are a killer and GDAX uses a maker/taker model that is infinitely better.

Most of portfolio is ETH, but I decided to buy some BTC when it dipped a little. The plan was to trade some altcoins with the BTC once it hits 3000. I wasn't expecting it to rise close to there this fast.

Yeah, I thought he was talking about the initial deposit/purchase. Bank->Account will take 4 days whether you but ETH/BTC directly on CB or deposit $ straight into GDAX.
