Does this change with pos?

The decentralization aspect... maybe. It could become more centralized as it will require 32ETH to run a validator, so a lot of people will be using pools. They have a cap of how much ETH can be staked by one validator, so large pool companies will have to have many pools, making the # of pools higher but really not as decentralized as it looks. It will depend a bit on how the pools are set up, how many different pools, how many lone validators there are, etc.

As for the fees part, no, POS won't really fix the fees. They are here to stay until sharding goes live (god knows when), but really by the time that's live the majority of users should be on layer 2 protocols (Polygon PoS/Polygon Hermes/Arbitrum/Optimism/Loopring/ImmutableX, etc etc) where gas is reasonable or even cheap. Sharding will enhance throughput at L1 but the biggest benefit will be to L2s since they can stuff exponentially more transactions into a single rollup as throughput increases and make gas even cheaper..

if you're using eth now because it's decentralized.. I'm guessing you stop using it once l2s are live?

if not, the most "secure and decentralized chain" is a larp to cope

similar to "ultra sound money" lmao

L2s are centralized. no maybe about

which is fine but don't pretend you're all about decentralization lol

Definitely investing in some ZK rollup tokens.

Yeah I'm invested in Polygon, but there aren't many validator nodes IIRC. L2 protocols are very centralized.

same. think that could be the next wave to move

L1s - metaverse - rollups

I'm looking at ZKSync but the token hasn't dropped yet. I think there are existing projects with available tokens but I need to research them more.

No. If you are moving/storing 8+ figures you will stay on mainnet for a long time

I was specifically referring to PoS/beacon chain and staking pools, which are a separate topic from Layer 2s.

Currently, all layer 2s are centralized. Heavily. However, Starkware has Starknet (A generalized EVM zkrollup chain) in alpha, and as it moves on through Beta and into production they will be decentralizing it so nodes will be a public, permissionless deal. Where I'm still unsure of is what the requirements for running a node will be. I have concerns that it'll be pretty strong node requirements, similar to Solana. It's probably a "good enough" level of decentralization for a layer 2. I'm not sure they have released any info on that yet. In the meantime, I'm convinced that starknet will be the big layer2 everyone migrates to and uses the most.

Here is their roadmap, and they're actually ahead of schedule:

i used zksync but the initial gas fees to use the platform were still over $30 lol

ill try stark tomorrow

im also not confident at all that some normie will ever wanna use these things but i do believe the L2 competition is gonna be intense

Make sure you are on the FTM network and your receipt wallet is also on the Fantom opera network. If you need to get off the FTM rework it’s probably better to bridge it at your final destination but IDK why you would want to get off the Fantom network when you can only use FTM on the Fantom network. One last thing, make sure your destination wallet has the FTM token address so you see it in your wallet when the coin arrives. You can also follow the transaction on ftmscan.com. Sorry if you already know this and is all trivial.

ETA: make sure you leave some FTM in your wallet for future transaction fees on the FTM network, just like you need to leave a little eth in your wallet for transactions on the ethereum Mainnet network or Avax in your wallet for transactions on the Avalanche network.

Most of these L2s are still in testing and throttled, but it's still a problem. Not sure about zksync, though.

That's why Vitalik has proposed a new EIP to change something about calldata that would reduce gas for L2s by 4-5x.

They don't know the difference. I think all of the CEXs and FIAT onramps will deploy on L2s, and most normies aren't getting off of CEXs. I go to a BR crypto Meetup group and even most of the people going to that don't do much besides trade on exchanges and hodl. Me and 2 other ppl use defi, and that's it.

IMO the path forward for true normie adoption lies through bank accounts and they barely know their using crypto.
