It's a change from proof of work consensus mechanism to proof of stake consensus mechanism.

im sure reddit has plenty of threads...
but eth 2.0 is something that vitalik has been promising since last summer...and now allegedly it will be fully implemented by 2022...its basically open heart surgery on the entire ecosystem changing from PoW to PoS, so no more mining.
