wait, what

lightning, DLCs, could always be written on bitcoin

none of these other coins or projects need to exist beyond bitcoins first settlement layer. sorry if that crushes your dreams but its the reality

free payments - you can do this on bitcoin now
instant payments - same
p2p payments - same
buying goods and serves - same
earn yield - same
defi - same
smart contracts - soon with DLCs

sure some projects and tokens will always exist but the next decade will weed out 99% of this crap (currently 8861 cryptos out there)

I think Bitcoin needs to stay in its lane as the digital gold . What happens when all this shite runs and the network becomes congested and transactions take days.

I believe Lightning is L2, not on bitcoin core. And it is a compromise on BTC core security and decentralization assumptions.

I have to quote this one for posterity. I didn't realize you were a hardcore btc maxi.

My dream is only to have a deeper understand of distributed ledger tech beyond the twitter and r/crypto headlines. There is a lot of bullshite to sift through.

It can't all run on BTC core. That is why BTC maxis are rolling out L2 solutions. That is why ETH is changing over to POS. All for scalability and transaction costs.

Yet we are to believe that BTC got it all perfectly right on the first go around.

bitcoin is just the settlement rail, that is why cashapp can use it for free, instant payments between peers, the tradeoff is that its not custodial

naa, bitcoin is not perfect and there are superior crypto technologies out there that dont involve blockchain. not going to deny that one.

I don't know much about ADA but I am sick to death of seeing people talk about it. Is this some type of marketing campaign that's unfolding?

Well considering there is no founder, I'd say they are not even in the same class as any other coin. So there's nothing to compare BTC to.

The important part is the decentralization and existing network, the functionality can be worked around as it currently is being done.

BTC is just the "most popular girl" in a school full of altcoins. everyone know what bitcoin is or they at least think they do. most "normal" people have never heard of ETH or LINK or ADA or VET or BNB. BTC is the only cryptocurrency that's discussed in the MSM compared to most. that's why i feel like the price is the way it is.

So BTC has free and instant transactions as long as the entire world is using cashapp and only conduct transactions there so it stays off the main chain? Sounds like an L2 solution.

Smart move by Jack though and probably fine for a lot of users.

So you don't actually own the btc? Decentralization, censorship resistance....who needs 'em. A real btc maxi wouldn't like these compromises.
