Money that vanished in this market could have been used to enjoy life now

I’m not saying not to invest or prepare, far from it.
What I am advising is to strike a balance that works for you. Don’t fall into the trap of depriving yourself of everything now and pining away for things you will do in retirement when you are either a) much older or b) possibly in poorer health. How many of us knew people that unexpectedly died not long after retirement?
Is there something that you enjoy that you want to do? Stop putting it off because you aren’t guaranteed anything in the future. IMO
I’m sure I’ll get downvoted a bunch, but I wanted to offer a different perspective for people to consider.

I certainly hope no one downvotes you for posting the most sound advice that has ever been posted on this board.

Terrific advice. Save enough to be comfortable, don't go much more over that.

Agree 100%
I've read multiple times from different sources/surveys that said the #1 thing that retirees regretted the most, especially those that waited until 70 to retire, is that they didn't travel more when they were younger.
That stuck with me, and I'm making sure that isn't one of my regrets.

quote:Key phrase right here.
strike a balance
Almost no one knows how to do this well. Most people focus way too much on one side or the other. They will either end up with a massive estate for their beneficiaries, depriving themselves of a work-life balance and time to enjoy passions, or they will have to greatly reduce their lifestyle spending in retirement because they spent too much in their working years.
